I was at Casa Cantina with a large group for lunch, and there were two servers assigned to our party. Our bill was $600. They decided to add a mandatory FORTY PERCENT tip on top of the base amount, making the total $840. We asked the server who brought us the ticket if there had been a mistake in calculating the total, and they said no. They said they added 40% because there had been two servers (i.e., each server got 20%).
THAT’S NOT HOW THAT WORKS!!! If there are enough people in a party to necessitate two servers, that means the bill will be higher than it would be for a smaller party, and 20% of that higher amount will also be proportionately higher. What if the restaurant had decided to assign five servers to our party? Would we have been expected to pay a 100% tip??
Before anyone asks, there was nothing on the menu or anywhere else in the restaurant indicating that they would be adding on an extra 20% for EACH server they decided to assign to our party.
The manager was not helpful and did not seem to understand how illogical this was. Also, we were not at all rude about it and our party had not been loud (plus, we were outside on the patio) or otherwise problematic during our meal. Not that a mandatory 40% tip would have been ok even if...
Read moreStopped in for a late lunch with my wife. 1st time in since Cantina Laredo bailed out of the area. Our waiter, Cesar, was a breath of fresh air. Incredibly aware of delivering an attentive, comprehensive meal service experience. The Margaritas were fresh and excellent. My lovely partner had the Fish Tacos and said they were excellent. No pic, sorry, I wasn't fast enough. Same with my Enchiladas Tipicas. Cheese Enchiladas covered with steak and more cheese. Fresh and very tasty. Saved room for the dessert..their excellent "Xangos", cheesecake wrapped in a Tortilla drizzled with Carmel sauce accompanied by a scoop of ice cream topped with whipped cream and a lil side of warm chocolate sauce for pouring or dipping. All the servers looked busy and on top of their customers needs, I was also impressed by the manager's interactions with occupied tables and customers. I was able to capture a couple of photos before packing it up (leaving with to go containers). Highly recommend the dishes we ordered, our server, CESAR, the awesome dessert, and the ambiance during...
Read moreThis turned out to an awful experience for lunch. Our food was brought out lukewarm at best. Every Mexican restaurant I've ever been to, you can hear your food coming when you've ordered fajitas because they always come out sizzling hot, but my wife's chicken fajitas came out completely cool to the touch which completely turned her off for wanting to eat. So that got sent back. As for my food, it too was lukewarm, but I decided to eat it being that that I was hungry. Unfortunately though, it was the worst burrito that I've ever eaten. The red sauce on it was awful and the refried beans were nasty. Even the white queso appetizer was so thin that it would barely stay on the chip. We watched a party of three, come in after us and get served their food before us. Didn't even have a manager come out to our table and address these issues. This place was far better when it was under its previous owner's. We will definitely not be...
