We made a special trip here to eat because we loved the Sportsman Cafe when this was the El Dorado. We were sat immediately by our waitress but then had to wait 10-12 minutes to get our drinks. We ordered wings for an appetizer but it came out with our meal. 2 of the 3 orders were wrong. Not too big of a deal. The food was good. Waitress was too worried about fixing all the problems with the table behind us to check on us or to refill our drinks. A manager walked by our table 2 times with our empty drink glasses at the edge of the table and never offered refills. Asked for a refill at the end of our meal, after we finished eating and she acted put out that we needed something. We then went to pay and left less than a 10% tip due to poor service and then the manager and waitress stood there whispering about us instead of seeing what the problem was with our meal. We are restaurant owners. My husband is a chef and we have both been in the food service industry our whole lives. We never tip less than 10% and usually never less than 15% in this economy with limited workers. This was a horrible experience with no concern from staff about their patrons. I do not recommend this...
Read moreMy daughter and I attempted to go here because there were a few items on the menu she wanted to try. There were no employees near the entrance, but a gentleman who seemed to be a manager for the casino immediately offered to get someone to seat us. An employee seated us asking only if we wanted a table or booth. We only saw two other parties in the dining area but I would guess 5-6 employees walking around. No one approached us even though we were seated by the display case/counter and several employees walked by or looked over at us. Several employees were chatting in that area. At one point I stood and saw an employee walking our way but she stopped to join the others talking. After about 20 minutes, I walked up to the counter and handed the menus back to an employee there. He didn’t say anything. I did approach the two employees at the nearby service desk in the casino and shared what happened. They were apologetic and offered to go talk to the restaurant staff and get a server. I thanked them but decided to find somewhere...

Now, there is a lack of prompt attention at the host's stand, but maybe only about six minutes while the host calls across the restaurant to find out which server is in which section, or whatever. Who really cares. It's not fine dining. It doesn't pretend to be.
However, the server is very, very polite. The menu is pretty diverse. It has gone through some changes in the last year. Mostly good ones.
I opt for the French dip sandwich. It looks good. It tastes even better. Check it out in the photo. A solid three and a quarters rounded up to four stars.(Artistically conversational-style prose might enhance what I hope is a feeling of chumful warmth)
Money is too tight to waste on a bad dining experience, but excellent service is priceless; and apparently the Sportsman's Paradise Cafe' in Bally's...
