Don't eat here if you like cold raw food and down right rude service. I travel the world eat all kinds of food and I have NEVER been treated with such disrespect by the waitress and manager. After telling them we aren't going to eat the food and we tried to leave the owner called the cops on my husband and I. We waited for the police to show up once they did my husband, the manager, and 2 officers proceeded to our table where we tried to eat.
Honestly the health inspector needs to shut this place down. We walked in ordered our drinks processed to the restrooms before going to the buffet. My husband was examining the hibachi grill as I came out the restroom. The food on the hibachi grill was warm it's suppose to be cold since it raw food, the beef was bloody and the shrimp was warm not cold or frozen. So we proceeded to the rest of the buffet everything was either empty or sitting for awhile. I got the won ton soup with green onions that had looked very dry, along with yakisoba noddles with onions and bell pepper, along with green beans.
I continued to the table as my husband waited for the cooks to bring out fresh food shortly after, he ended up getting an egg roll with sauce along with beef mongolian. The sauce for the egg roll was horrible than he bit into the beef it was raw he spit it out. Cut open the beef it's full of blood still running. Mind you we both like medium raw steaks but, this was like raw hamburger meat.
So we let the waitress know she panicked started shouting to another lady proceeded out the door to look for the manager. We were following her to find the manager. The manager proceeded us in angry and yelling and cussing in vietnamese and english. Threatening to call the cops on us, yes the showed up even the police said we weren't in the wrong they can't do anything about it. We weren't dining and ditching because, theoretically we didn't even dine there just used the restroom ate a few bites of sorry food and had taken a few sips of our water and sweet tea.
The police did tell us this lady calls them a lot for the same reason they were shaking theirs heads embarrassed for us. Normally most restaurant owners or managers will make things right by making sure your food is right and you have great customer service.
Even if they give you a discount on food or recooking your order, not calling the cops. This is a true story because, there was several people as well that got and left gave me their numbers as witnesses. There was people that came into the restaurant were leaving because, of the situation. Shut down this place health inspector! The restaurant needs to get their steam tables working properly, get actually chefs that known how to cook, along with staff that won't laugh at you or scream at you because you refuse to eat tainted food. They know exactly what we drink and where we like to sit . We came in with her parents and brother . And like any other day we came and ate . I'm not one to complain or make a scene in which I didn't make one .They apparently have a 100% on health dept of Louisiana but last update was in 2016 . So I was on my second plate Fixen to start the plate reaching for the potatoes. a roach caught my eye it was directly across my eyes on the glass and I'm a pretty tall person so I have to duck down so we kinda made friend's at this point dropped my plate on buffet in front of the food . People in line didn't even say anything went and told my gf and her family . And decided I would go back and tell the gentleman cleaning the bar off about it . I pointed and said roach whispering. Not making a seen . He takes he's cleaning cloth smacks it and smiles okay . Like its a everyday thing he does . And that isn't very sanitary after reusing the same rag to clean the bar off after the fact . I already had in mind I'm not coming back . my mother n Law asked our waitress can we speak to the manager . She isn't here she's on vacation. She's like who do I talk to . She said me . She told her what I said. And the guy who I told about the roach walks over talking in there language thought that wasn't pilet or professional in the situation. She didn't apologize. I spoke up I said I and my gf come here all the time she she's I know . Well you want your meal for FREE . Just yours . I said honestly it doesn't matter . But I think you should have your entire buffet checked because they live in that environment and there is more the likely more then one . She siad well every Friday someone comes and sprays . I said oh okay well I would have the. At inspected. My mother said she was going to call the health dept she got pissy and says go ahead and insists through out the entire time at the end of our conversation . And then I said I would just like an apology . That's all . I'm not here to make a scene but apparently they weren't greatful of me not screaming roaches this place is nasty and they lost out on food cost and wasted food on a saturday. The food is always fresh regardless of what other reviewers say. The service is outstanding, especially if you consider that our server asks us each time she passes if we would like refills. So to one reviewer this could be seen as "hovering." Their sushi selection for a buffet is out of this world. And they have six different kinds of soup unlike the usual two or three. They even have Dumplings and Hoisin sauce. My friend whom with I go at lunch time, enjoys their fresh dinner rolls. And they are too hot to handle out of the oven with melted butter on top. Like my grandmother's rolls! I appreciate that they have steamed rice in a heated pot, that is not fried as I am trying to watch my calories LOL. But I never ever leave sumo buffet feeling anything but happy, and stuffed like a tick! I'm certain that it depends on what time of day you go as to your experience. And this would be the case with any buffet restaurant I'm certain. If you go at 2:30 in the afternoon they're probably not replenishing the dishes as rapidly. And if you go at 9:30 at night your experience will probably be not top notch as well. However, the staff at Sumo Buffet is all about customer pleasure and I am certain If You Ask, they will make anything you wish to have that is on their buffet. Another thing I can tell you is every time I come here I see people of Asian ethnicity coming into eat. This observation alone leads me to believe that the food here is outstanding. Not to mention I have tasted it myself. If you have never been to Sumo Buffet on Youree Drive in Shreveport Louisiana, and you enjoy buffet food, you need to try it! The one and only singular complaint that I have is that their wasabi is not spicy or hot, but still their sushi is masterfully made And they serve seaweed salad in the rice boats! And with Covid 19 still about, I just want to encourage people to enjoy this clean, delicious, and friendly-staffed restaurant. It is a local gem.
