Let's start with the primary purpose of a review of a restaurant...its food. As part of the Papa Murphy's chain, this restaurant's food products are completely in line with other Papa Murphy's franchise operations. The dough is made fresh during the day, ingredients sliced and diced, and baking sheets readied for use, all per franchise instructions. It meets the standard. Take out home, bake it, and eat it. It's yummy.
The problem at this location is that I found it difficult to get a pizza to take home. Speed, or the lack thereof, is a serious problem. In not one, not two, but three visits, the staff just can't get anything done in a timely manner. While they are polite, they are a model of inefficiency. They'd place 4th in the race between themselves, the hare, and the turtle.
In my most recent visit, about a week ago, I placed the order over the internet at about 5:20 for a 6:15 pickup. I walked in about 6:22 and it wasn't ready. I stood and waited. They didn't talk to me until 7:10, when they called my name. I finally had my pizza and two salads...and one of the salads was a substitute because they didn't have my preferred choice ready; oddly enough, I didn't feel like waiting 10 more minutes for it.
Yes, two hours... And all I got for my patience was a rather cursory, if polite, "Sorry about the delay. As you see, we were swamped tonight." I might have accepted that if there was a long line, but there wasn't. At its peak, there were 6 people in the store. There wasn't even an offer of a free drink or a coupon, just an, "I'm sorry."
I won't fall into the trap of blaming poor work performance on the employee market in Sierra Vista. If franchises like Culver's can find and hire the kind of outstanding young adults they have from this pool of employees, then I don't accept the labor pool as a valid argument for poor performance. This owner should take a lesson from the owner of that other restaurant and use tough love: You, my dear employee, will treat this business as if your livelihood depends on building a strong core of repeat customers who recommend us to their friends, through the finest food and service, as though I am standing over your shoulder, or you will find yourself unemployed. Do well, and there will be rewards.
Since there is only one of these stores in town, odds are that I'll go back there when the craving for their admittedly good pizza strikes, but I might also start looking for a frozen substitute. At least I won't have to wait almost 2 hours to get it home and into the oven.
17 May 2022 edit: I have, in fact, gone back to this restaurant several times since my original post. I'm pleased to report that service has markedly improved, trading the rating from 1 to 4 stars. Next, they can work on having those salads ready when I'm...
Read moreWent to Papa Murphy's to get a pizza didn't realize that they were closing in 10 minutes. Anyhow I placed my order and paid then a young boy goes to the back, gets my crust and proceeds to make my pizza. While he's making the pizza one of the girls come out and gives him some money, he takes the money with the gloves on then proceeds to finish making the pizza. So I go over and politely let him know that if that's my pizza I don't want it because he touched that dirty money then continued to make my pizza. He then says to me that that wasn't my pizza it was his. 🤔 Really though? Anyway another male employee comes out trying to figure out what's going on and he whispers to him what I said and then that young boy goes to the back and gets another crust and brings it out. Meanwhile the first boy is still making up the first pizza never once changing his gloves. A girl employee then comes out and now she's wondering what's going on and they tell her what I said. She looks at me then puts gloves on and began to make my pizza pretty much rushing to throw it together in my opinion at this point. The 4th employee (a female) then comes out and ask, "what are y'all doing." They tell her and she looks at me. I look back like 🤬 what while still trying to remain calm. The girl finishes my pizza, wraps it and hands it to me. All the while the 1st boy has moved on to digging in all the other containers of toppings for which he "wanted" on his "pizza" never once changing his gloves. This was my first time going there in years and after tonight it'll be a long time if not the last time that I return. I only went tonight because of my son who has been begging for their pizza. I understand wanting to go home at the close of business and I honestly didn't know that they were about to close until I read the window while I was waiting but anyhow I did get in there on time so I still expect to receive the same quality of pizza that I would have received if it wasn't 10 minutes until close. I am also appalled that from the looks that each of those employees gave me when they found out what I said that they would think that it's ok to touch money and then touch someone's food whether it was mine or his. Also all the rest of the bins that he digged in are now contaminated for tomorrow's customers. On a good note, although I feel like my pizza was rushed my children did enjoy the pizza which is why I...
Read moreGot online for a household who is using their EBT food card to give them something special for once.. only to be ripped off by $10.00 .. it may not be much money to most people.. but these are Vets i help each month in saving pennies just so they can survive on what little they have. Then only to be charged for the family special of a cowboy pizza a large pepperoni cookie dough and a 2 L of pop would’ve never ordered any of the cookie dough or the pop if it were not said on that special. Going in you can only pay by EBT in person. So before warned that if you were using an EBT card make sure you find out that you’re not getting ripped off and individually charge for each thing instead of the online special that they offer I guess they are hard up for peoples 10 bucks.. and that’s pretty pathetic.. so goid job with that. You should be proud.. and yet you say you have new people you are training well I think if you were training them well before sending them out to take orders and take peoples monies they should be trained correctly.. will never give this place another dime..And when you called to complain to the manager ...she argues with you ...wow great...
