Demetrio's Restaurant & Pizza — Restaurant in Siesta Key

The pizza has never looked like this ever before. The crust was paper thin and the large cheese pizza was UNDER COOKED and DOUGHY on the bottom and the crust was completely white on the bottom. Usually it has different colors and is crusty and good. It was nothing like that. I was able to finally send pictures of the pizza so please scroll down to the bottom of this page so you can review them. Look at the cheese does that pizza look appetizing to you? Would you actually eat that pizza? I told Jennifer that I had taken pictures of the pizza and she said there was no way for her to see them because I was not allowed to text them to her. I was very disappointed because she really did not want to do much about it and told me to call the delivery people. The delivery people did not cook the pizza Demetrios did!! She is actually one of the owners and I can’t believe she said she saw the pizza and thought it looked fine and allowed it to go out like that to a customer!!🥺🥺🤦🏼‍♀️

UPDATE: In the middle of the night, I must’ve got food poisoning and I threw up several times because I had one piece of the pizza.🤢🤮 That same evening I put the rest of the pizza in my refrigerator and when I opened the refrigerator the next morning I threw up at the smell that was permeating all through my refrigerator from the pizza so I threw it out which I was planning to do anyway. I have cleaned the refrigerator several times and that same smell is still in there and I can’t get rid of it.

Google just sent me a notification that 75 people have already seen what the pizza looked like.

Sunday search for nearby pizza after humongous Bradenton, FL traffic backup had us redirected south via Yelp to Demetrio's. Pleasantly surprised by the well blended Demetrio's chef special pizza. Flavorful with wide range of toppings but not one overpowering ingredient. Crust bottom slightly crispy (but don't think it was cooked in a stone brick oven). Table also had pepperoni pizza (I didn't partake) with favorable review. Comparatively, definitely better than our franchise favorite Papa Johns (sorry but PJ's is consistent and widely available so a reasonable public benchmark) but not as good as a couple places we've had that were brick oven pizza makers. I lately prefer thin crust or deep dish Sicilian and Demetrio's is a strong finisher in the normal medium crust category that I usually defer. No real reason to knock the pizza so 5 stars. Side comment is the small $3 Greek Salad could use a little sprucing as other than the add-on feta cheese, sliced onions and the dressing didn't differentiate from the other table's regular small salads (all had a black olive). Missing what? I think either diced red peppers / pimento or the like and maybe a little fresher greener lettuce maybe not iceberg would have made it unique and memorable. But not worth knocking off a star for a surprising low-price appetizer. The regular side salads were $2 so a good price for a little 'light shaded greenery. Just say no to this place. It's hard to say that but there it is. Demetrios was the place to go for years for us local Sarasota residents. The place was always buzzing, cheerful and fun. They always brought out shells and pasta and the Greek salad was amazing, a lot of goodness in a small wooden bowl. Dino ran the place and he was all about making sure you knew that you were FAMILIA!! Dino got sick a few years back.My wife took care of him and the family were so sweet to her and made sure they said hello to us anytime that we came in. Not so today, Dino has passed away and I knew it after being in the place for 2 minutes. I no longer live in Sarasota and I could tell immediately that something was different. Our waitress was very rude and audibly voiced her displeasure over me asking for Pasta , they used to just bring it out and it was free she did bring some to my 10 year old but no one else got any, I ordered the Greek salad, it never came. My drink stayed empty until she brought out our under cooked and soggy pizza ( It used to be the best in the world). All the crackers in the basket were old, stale and broken. There is a palpable negative vibe inside now. I feel bad for the girls, they need to hire people who want to work there. Maybe they can get the magic back. I hope so. Maybe it is time to sell it.
