Food=AMAZING Customer Service= honestly the worse I’ve ever been treated.
I’m from NC and me and a group of friends visited the keys for the week coming up to Memorial Day. One day we were at Siesta Key and we wanted sushi for dinner. We visited this restaurant and first off, we sat at our table for an hour and a half for our food. During this time, our waitress came to out table outside of taking our drink and food orders, ONCE. My little sister ordered fried ice cream and I don’t know if it was the waitress or the chef but we got the fried ice cream first like 15 minutes in?? I don’t know how exactly the transition from waitress/waiter giving orders to chefs work at this establishment, but why would we get the dessert before the entrees? It doesn’t end here, my other friend asked what the specialty rolls consist of as it is not stated on the menu and the waitress we had reached into her bra and handed him a dollar bill. She said sorry, reached back into her bra, and pulled out what looked like a little clipping of the menu that described the rolls. Not only was this unsanitary, it was unprofessional. If the menu does not include a description of the specialty rolls, maybe put a clipping like this on the table instead of the wait staff holding on to them. At the end of it all, we went to pay and saw there was a FORCED TIP. The waitress we had did not deserve a tip and I wasn’t planning on giving her one but I couldn’t take it off my bill. So this is making me think that the waitress knew she could be lazy, unfriendly, and not check up on us during the time we were here because she knew no matter what she would get a tip at the end of the service. This really sucked because I read other reviews before leaving this and I think they were talking about the same waitress. The other waiters and waitresses seemed like they were really good as well. Their tables were laughing and they were hustling getting food and drinks out. I definitely think the waitress we had it a bad egg out of the bunch. I didn’t catch her name, but if you go to this establishment and get the blonde waitress, no shame, request someone else. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because as I said before, the customer service was absolutely terrible, but the sushi was really, really good. I’m not dying to go back, maybe I’ll order takeout next time so I won’t have the possibility of dealing with that...
Read moreForget about going here - cross it off your list! You've been warned. We're locals who have eaten at Star Thai for many years. As soon as they moved to a large space on Siesta Key, we noticed the prices increased and the food diminished in quality. However, we remained loyal due to certain dishes we like. Last night was one of the worst experiences we've ever had at ANY restaurant. We were seated near the bar and five very, very young girls were screaming at the top of their lungs as the downed shots for 45 minutes. We asked the waiter, to please ask them to lower their voices, but he said there was nothing he do. I asked to speak to the manager, but no one came. Why? The manager WAS ENCOURAGING THESE GIRLS AT THE BAR as they screamed, yelled, toasted and sang at unbelieveably high levels. The manager was also blowing a trumpet constantly. Since our table was about 7 ft. away from the commotion, we couldn't chat or enjoy our food. It was a nightmare. Finally, the manager came over and said the entire incident was his fault. He's a very young man, and he smirked as he apologized. I explained that his actions were unprofessional, and our waiter was of no help. Basically, there were no adults in the room. The few other diners looked over at the girls in disgust. I told the manager we'd been customers for many years, and this was the worst experience we'd had. I lost my appetite and my wife was shocked that such juvenile behavior would be tolerated. I asked the "manager" to send the owners over to the table, but he said they were home with their baby. I hope the owners read this review, because "while the cats were away the mice played" in the most immature manner I've ever seen at a restaurant . . . We also noticed that the restaurant is half the size it was when it opened. The sushi had a little dot of eel with enough ginger for one piece. Maybe the restaurant has been sold, but whatever the case, the owners are to blame for hiring young, inexperienced people who have NOT been trained to run a restaurant. . . .Only two other tables had diners, and the place was dark and empty. . . .and to top it all off, the prices are now at ridiculous levels with smaller portions. There are many other great Thai restaurants in Sarasota - STAY AWAY...
Read moreIf you're looking for a place to have a blast with your friends, look no further than Star Thai & Sushi in Siesta Key. This restaurant is not only a sushi heaven, but also a party central. I went there for a bachelorette party and they made it an unforgettable evening from start to finish. The service was impeccable and they pulled out all the stops to make it magical. They even decorated the tables for us! We had a group of 16 and it can be difficult to manage a party that size, but they were pros. They took our orders quickly and efficiently, and checked on us frequently to make sure we were happy. We started off with a bunch of shared appetizers. Everyone raved about the lobster lava roll! It was around $50 but totally worth it. You get a huge portion and stuffed with lobster and scallops. It was creamy, sweet, savory, and crunchy all at the same time. We also enjoyed cocktails and sake bombs. The lychee martini was the winner. It was sweet, refreshing, and potent. Instead of entrees, we got 4 sushi boats. It was so much food we couldn't believe it. And it wasn't just for show, everything was absolutely delicious. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We had a variety of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. They made sure to point out ones we thought we would enjoy most. They also had vegan and vegetarian options, and were careful to accommodate everyone's food allergies. After dinner, we stayed for karaoke and the whole team joined in with us dancing, blowing bubbles, and blasting sparklers. The energy in the restaurant was incredible, everyone was just having the best time. The karaoke selection was great, they had songs from different genres and eras. We sang our hearts out to classics like "hot stuff", "bodyadi", and "the last dance" by Donna summer. The latter we remixed to the tune of star Thai and sushi. We're hoping that they will use it for future advertisements. I highly recommend this spot for a party or big event. They will make you feel special and pampered, and you will have a night to remember. Big shout out to Golf, Pong, and Peat. Such an amazing team. Thank you for making our bachelorette party so much fun. We will...
