The location is fantastic, right across the road from the public beach access, one street over from the "main drag" of the village. The price is fantastic for such a great location. The reason the price is so great is because the room was not great. We stayed in the beach view suite.||Pros:||-Roomy with a living room/kitchenette combo and a separate bedroom||-Comfortable king-size bed if you like a very firm mattress (we do)||-Full-size fridge and plenty of dishes, utensils, etc. in the kitchen||-Large patio with hammock and grill||-Beach chairs, towels, etc. provided||-Great parking right in front of the building||-Owners seemed very friendly, though we didn't interact with them much. We left them alone and they left us alone - we like that.||-Layout and location allows privacy even though other people are around||Cons:||-Website not precisely representative of the room. It seems there might be two beach view suites, the other a bit larger than ours. the website sounds like there is a single suite, with some photos from our suite and some from a suite we never saw. We were charged the low-end price and the room was adequate so we didn't complain.||-Room smelled strongly of mold. Figured it was standard for an older building in south Florida and wasn't bad enough to bother us, but someone with respiratory issues may have trouble.||-Room needed an upgrade. Everything was pretty shabby, but nothing some new furniture and a good coat of paint wouldn't cure.||-Bathroom was TINY and had some mildew in the grout around the bottom of the shower. On the plus side it was done in kitschy pink tiles reminiscent of the1950s, which I thought was cute. ||One thing that isn't really a pro or a con for us is that there is no maid service. It is set up sort of like an extended stay. If you want the room cleaned during your stay you have to request it and pay for it separately. We didn't mind that - no one coming into our room every day when we didn't need it for only a three night stay - but it might not be great for a longer stay.||We do not require anything fancy, and the location, price, and size of the suite made this more than adequate for us. If all you want is a place to shower and crash while enjoying the beach and all the great stuff to do in Siesta Key and Sarasota, you will probably be happy with this place. We were. However, if you are looking for luxury, you'll be...
Read moreThis was our family's first stay with Beach Palms. We split up stay between a one bedroom ocean front apartment as well as a two bedroom cottage. ||Beach Palms is in a very quiet part of Siesta Key, literally across the street from the beach and minutes within walking distance of the local downtown area. ||The proprietors Marie Louise her husband and their son, Michael were all extremely nice and live on the property. They were always available when we called them but gave us our privacy.||The ocean front apartment has a huge sliding glass door in the living room that faces the ocean. The ocean is quite a distance away from the apartment so you can not actually see the ocean but the view was very nice because the lot in front of the apartment did not have buildings on it and was a grassy area.||The sliding glass doors open onto your own patio with table, chairs, lounge chairs, umbrella and even a hammock. Our family ate many of our meals out on the patio and loved the morning breezes coming in from the ocean. People and cars do use the road in front of the patio area but it is not crazy busy. If you do not mind people walking by and seeing you eat your breakfast then you will like the patio.||Our son slept on the pullout couch and the mattress in the bedroom was very comfortable. ||There is one bathroom which is in the bedroom. There is no bathtub and the shower and bathroom are on the smaller side. For reference my husband is 5'9" and I am 5'2" and we had just enough room to turn around within the shower. Since we are not very tall and are slender all these things were fine with us.||We also stayed in the yellow two bedroom cottage. The cottages do not have ocean views and are on a quieter side street. but do have lovely views of the property's foliage. Our cottage also came with a daybed in the front part of the house which had a nice view out the front windows. ||The cottage's patio is private and smaller than the apartment patio. There is also a hammock in the front yard.||Both properties' kitchen's had all we needed to prepare meals, a refrigerator, sink, electric burner top, convection oven or oven with stove top, microwave as well as plates, dishes and silverware. Both properties had grills as well as chairs, umbrellas, coolers, towels, and floats for the beach. ||We enjoyed our stay at both properties at Beach Palms and would definitely stay...
Read morethis was my second trip back and i was looking forward to it. unfortunately we booked at the end of september 2015 and out oct 3, 2015. i realize its the slow time of year as i am a native floridian but paying what others do, i feel like my companion and i should have been able to utilize the services and we were not able to.
i wrote the owner a handwritten note when we got back but i never got a response. my complaint was that i was being "hounded" by maid on where we put our garbage. she apparently wanted up to put it way outside the gate for her. also we could not utilize the washer as the building was locked. the swim spa had a line floating in it the whole time we were there and lizards in the spa. we also asked for another sheet for king size bed which we never got. i brought my own towels from home but only have queen size sheets. i am not accustomed to sleeping on the same sheet for one whole week.
the second bedroom in the blue cottage had a bed, more like a cot, for a child. guests for one night could not stay with us.
i was also constantly "hounded" by the maid to make sure i was utilizing the "pet" sheet. i had a small dog with us and i have my couches at home covered and although they furnished a pet sheet we brought our own. the last time i stayed there, i had a golden retriever with us and no one "hounded" me about the pet sheet.
i wrote the owner to let him know about how dissatisfied we were. we won't be back and that is truly ashame. his not contacting me is now the...
