Disclaimer: This is my first negative review on Google. I consider myself a foodie and enjoy a wide variety of cuisines. This food experience was sadly , not enjoyable.
The food might look okay but it doesn't tell the story.
The first impression gives off an authentic Mexican place, ala Jacky's or Gilberto's, rather than a Chevy's. The decor, music, and menu gives that appearance. The food though..
I ordered a birria taco, Simon's burrito, and I attempted to order a side of chips and salsa, but was informed they don't have salsa. Only queso or guac. Okay, odd...
Not sure what kind of mexican place, espeically one seeming authentic, doesn't have salsa but okay. I wanted to try a bit of everything hence the big order.
The taco was ..okay at best. The beef was decent enough. Not very flavorful but juicy and decent at best.
The burrito..was cold somehow. Assuming it was cooked fresh, the meat , queso, and tortilla should been warm at least but definitly wasn't It was very bland. I couldn't pick out any individual flavors. It was just cold, bland mush.
The chips and queso were also disappointing. The queso was half water. I could swirl it around in the cup. The chips were store bought, definitly not made in house which is pretty much a staple to authentic mexican.
There is a taco bell across the parking lot. You are better off going there, for both price and taste.
The taco I ate all of, the burrito and chips I ate about half of before tossing. Unless they change their ingredients , I will not be going back and I advise you heed my warning and several other reviews and go elsewhere for your Mexican...
Read moreI do wish the best to a new small business, of course I do. But, I will critique it in hopes that they can and do improve. Simon's Tacos has finally opened. After many many months of driving by, they are open. Tonight was the night to give it a shot. I read their reviews, and they are either a 1 or a 5, no in between. So I will give them one, maybe two more shots, as maybe I just got unlucky tonight. Their menu is small, vey small, which I am ok with. As long as you got what I want. I was in the mood for a smothered enchilada. It was $12 bucks, with beans and rice of course. Of course I wanted lettuce $2, tomato $1, and sour cream $1. Wow. 16 bucks, plus tax, and tip - $20 out the door for one meal for one person. (this is NOT fine dining). I asked about the green sauce. Is it tomatillo? Is it green chili? She had NO idea what I was talking about. This is my biggest peeve about some restaurants, where they can not speak English. C'mon man! How am I supposed to know what to order??? I order the shredded chicken enchilada. They give me a shredded beef enchilada. UGH! It had a spice in it that I do not know what it is, but I did not like it. It tasted like something that belongs in a breakfast muffin? So, another restaurant failure. I will go back and try it two more times. I hope they improve, or, I just get lucky for a change! All the best Simon! ...
Read moreWe stopped by this place on our way back to Arkansas. The pictures seem like they had authentic Mexican food, so we gave it a shot. Google maps takes through the back side of their building, so just check your gps before you go. Customer service was okay, the cashier didn’t get anything wrong and she made sure to verify my order before I made my payment. The tables were not fully cleaned and the place was not that busy. The aguas de jamaica that we ordered were extremely sweet that it overpowered the taste of the jamaica. I went back to the cashier to ask for another to-go cup so I could add water to my jamaica and reduce the sugar, but she said that she didn’t have any and if I wanted a to-go cup I had to pay $3. I ordered two sopes de asada and they were not what I expected. The meat didn’t taste like asada, it tasted more like adobada. The sope was chewy and it seemed like it was undercooked. The sour cream was not your typical Mexican sour cream, just the regular sour cream you get at Walmart. My father and my sister ordered tacos de asada and they too said that they didn’t taste like asada. My sister also ordered a side of guacamole, which I thought it was too pricey for the portion, and it didn’t have any flavor. All in all, I would not recommend this place, the food may look good, but the flavor is...
