I'm truly baffled by the 5-star reviews on here. The only reasonable explanation I can come up with is that they're from people who have lived in the south their whole lives and don't know what good NY style pizza is. As a former NY'er, I can tell you Salvo's pizza is not it! We tried Salvo's two years ago when we moved here and it was not good then. We decided to try it again tonight, two years later, and it was still not good. To start with, the crust has very little flavor and is as hard as cardboard. My daughter had to cut her slice into bite-sized pieces with a pizza cutter just so she could eat it. The crust is the basis for a good pizza, and this one ruined the rest of the pizza. Second, apparently they don't know how to hand toss pizza dough. Ours certainly was not round (see picture). Then, the toppings were not evenly spread on the half that had toppings. Some slices were only about half covered with sauce and cheese, the rest was bare crust. Another slice was loaded with mushrooms and five slices of pepperoni stacked on top of one another, while other slices with toppings had barely any mushrooms or pepperoni. It literally looks like someone just grabbed the toppings and threw them onto half the pizza without regard for whether or not they were evenly spread. It was one literally one of the worse looking pizzas I've ever seen! The only redeeming quality of this pizza was that it was edible. I gave it two stars for the sole reason that it was edible and that we're in the south. If I had this pizza in NY, I would have given...
Read moreI stopped here because I had heard the pizza was good. I had seen a 7.99 lunch special sign on the highway and it got my attention. I told the man I wanted the lunch special. He said it came with a salad and a drink. We did not discuss price and I did not ask since I had seen the sign. I ordered two specials which included one piece of pizza one salad and one soft drink. I also ordered a third single piece of pizza plus two slices of cheesecake. So that's three slices of pizza, two single salads, two drinks and two pieces of cheesecake. My bill was $50.00. I sat down and ate my piece of pizza. The other two were for my children who were not with me. When the line had gone down, I asked the man why my bill was so high and he showed me an itemized receipt. Apparently the lunch special rang up as $11.99 and then there were other costs added to that I suppose because my pizzas had a topping on them?? Nevertheless it seemed a little jacked up and I just think it is crazy high to pay $50 for three slices of pizza two salads two drinks and a couple of slices of cheesecake. Not a fancy restaurant and I feel like I could have just purchased two large pizzas for that amount of money. The pizza was good but I definitely feel overcharged. Now I am curious, what exactly does one get for 7.99? A slice of...
Read moreWalked in towards the end of lunch, Michael greeted my wife and I. We explained it was our first time and he immediately walked us through the menu and how their sauces and gravy is made.
Now the food, I had the Manicotti, and the Manicotti was amazing. Tomato Gravy was amazing. Cheese was fresh and everything was baked great. I loved everything about it. Absolutely killer dish, but that gravy was the star. My wife had the fettuccine alfredo. The pasta was great, it was cooked perfectly. The sauce was thick. He said it was made from scratch with heavy cream and he wasn't lying. It was the best alfredo I've had in a while. She opted in for the chicken to be added to her alfredo, and it was fresh. Tasted great.
Overall atmosphere is really nice. It has a great atmosphere. We were able to keep a private conversation, as noone is walking up to bother you every 2 minutes, and the music is audible but soft enough to hear each other whisper. The restooms were updated, but more importantly clean. The whole place was very clean, but the restrooms were extremely clean.
If I could rate this place 6 stars, I would. Great local place, worth every cent and then some. Go check them out if you haven't yet, you're missing out. Thanks to Salvo's for the awesome experience. We will...
