The Point was a fun experience for me and my 7 year old daughter.
We went on a sunny Wednesday shortly after Frank Cervantes began his set. The atmosphere was absolutely wonderful - totally what I expect (and dream of) when I visit a tiki bar in a shore town in New Jersey. The palm trees, umbrellas with a thatched appearance, and sand everywhere sets the tone.
Their sound system is good and the view from our table couldn't be beat. We had a lot of fun watching birds and boats go by on the bay between Somers Point and Ocean City.
My daughter's chicken tenders were 10/10 to her. She liked the eco-friendly bamboo plates. I also enjoyed the crab cake app; the white sauce it came with was delicious. The flavor lived up to its Caribbean name. We topped our meal off with a virgin strawberry daquiri. Between bites of chicken tender, she made her way to the sand and dug her toes in. Despite being a bar, I can't speak more highly of the family-friendly environment.
We wanted to take the french fries and drink to go, but a security guard stopped us on the way out and told me I had to throw out my alcoholic beverage. I told him that it was a virgin drink for my daughter, and he asked why it had a fruit garnish if there was no alcohol. I really had no explanation for him; I didn't make the drink. At this point, my rule-abiding daughter felt awkward and no longer wanted to finish her drink, so we ended up throwing it away.
That being said - this isn't a complaint. I appreciate that they have tight security and won't allow people to leave with an open beverage, and completely understand why the security guard would mistake the drink for being alcoholic. While it was a little awkward, I'm a big fan of safety, and love that The Point is a safe place to drink.
Parking was ample and it was very easy to get to. We can't wait to go back to The Point again and try out a virgin pina colada. The experience really...
Read moreHad an extremely disappointing experience last night. Went to The Point with a group of friends last night to celebrate our friend’s college graduation. We had some first timers, one of which being a girl coming from upstate New York who is 21 years old. The bald bouncer with the braided beard decided to take it upon himself to deny her ID. We were with parents who were also able to confirm that she was 21 years old. She provided multiple forms of identification, and was still denied. The bouncer acted like he was going to take another look at the ID and decided it would be a good move to POCKET her extremely valid identification, which she needed for her 3.5 hour drive home today. We threatened to call the cops and he gave it back. We actually DID end up calling the police in order to verify the ID, though there was nothing they could do to help us given that The Point is a private establishment, which we understood. Even more disappointing was their so-called “management” who upon our request to evaluate the situation simply grunted, shrugged their shoulders, and turned away. Another woman from The Point came over to our friend and said she believed the ID was real, but at this point the big-bad-bald bouncer was in too deep and not backing down, so they ultimately sided with their employee. Extremely rude and disappointing experience, and will deter friends and family from coming here. Upon coming to write this review, I saw another individual post an almost identifial story. My advice to The Point would be to provide better training to your bouncers, or simply don’t...
Read moreI went here Tuesday night with a group of friends (ages 20-23). Our server was absolutely horrible and unbelievably disrespectful. She rolled her eyes at me multiple times (while I was ordering & asking for water for the table). My friend ordered a cheesesteak (which comes wrapped in tin foil with no side) he asked for a side of chips which took 30 minutes to come out. We asked our server to split the check 4 ways (which has never been a problem the countless times my boyfriend and I have been there) our server proceeded to roll her eyes and tell us she couldn’t do that (all she had to do is itemize our bill). We were respectful to our server the whole time “take your time” “no rush” “please & thank you”. When it came to paying, her service or lack there of was reflected in her tip. She decided to call my boyfriend out before our table was even done paying and ask him why he left her no tip. After the rest of our party paid she told my boyfriend and I “to have the night we deserve and that she will remember us”. I went and talked to the manager Savannah who did absolutely nothing other than say “yeah, sorry” while not even making eye contact. While I went to talk to the manager our server decided to parade around to tables near us, point at our table, laugh, and tell the other customers how horrible we are. I don’t understand our server’s problems, I wish I got her name. She was “big boned” and had darker skin, can’t find a picture of her on the Facebook or else I’d attach it. DO NOT GO HERE ITS NOT WORTH IT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO DISRESPECTED AT...
