Decent spot for a hearty Korean meal. Upon entering Buk Kyung, I hoped for an authentic Korean dining experience. The setting felt reminiscent of many traditional establishments in Korea, but the ambiance gave hints of mediocrity. A recent management change should have ideally infused new life, but Buk Kyung unfortunately remained stagnant. The placidity of the restaurant, even during what should be bustling hours, became all too indicative of its static nature, providing quick service merely due to the lack of patronage. The appetizers, specifically the fried dumplings and kimchi pancake, were the saving grace. They delivered an authentic and promising taste, reminiscent of an average Seoul diner. However, that initial promise quickly dwindled as I delved into the entrées. Both the Samsun Ganjajang and Boo Dae Stew left much to be desired. Despite the intriguing components and names, the execution felt tepid at best. The dishes that should've been bursting with flavors ended up falling flat, delivering an uninspiring palate experience. While its price point might be an appealing factor when compared to eateries in Allston, the overall experience at Buk Kyung unfortunately doesn't measure up. The potential for a revamp was there with the management change, but the lack of noticeable improvements was disappointing. I'd hesitate to consider it for future Korean dining excursions.

Buk Kyung is the place to go if your craving picnic comfort Korean food. The place specialises in one of my favs, tansuyuk (fried pork) and this is one of the only places I can get it fresh in Boston. Oftentimes I find Korean food easier and cheaper to make at home. However, this dish is well worth eating out at Buk Kyung instead. The pork is so juicy and the batter so crunchy. The sauce is pretty standard but I could go just for the tansuyuk. My partner loves jajamyeon, so that’s also one of our go to orders to fullfill our picnic cravings! I got the tofu soup last visit and it was huge. So know that maybe you should share to prepare for leftovers after. Overall it’s pretty pricey for casual food but it’s a place I’m excited to go back to. P.s. add a ginger tea for a perfect spicy hot tea for those cold winter days.

The food tasted fantastic and the combos were amazing value but there are some negatives that need to be addressed. Food: We ordered two combos that left us super full and with leftovers. Our favorite were the tangsuyuk and the soondubu. The pork was super crispy and the dipping sauce was refreshingly tangy. The soondubu had a great heat that was flavorful but passed quickly so you could enjoy sweating too much. Service: Our waiter was pleasant but with the dining area pretty empty more frequent check-ins would be appreciated. Atmosphere: The interior was clean but I would describe the decor as nondescript Asian. Our primary complaint was definitely a fruit fly that kept buzzing around us. Some fly traps would solve the issue.

COMPLAIN

Hello everyone,

I had my stuff in hand and needed to put them in my backpack. I didn't want to do this in the middle of the street with thousands of people walking by, nor did I want to block the sidewalk just to put my devices away. So, I went to the nearest open store, as most were closed. The closest place was Buk Kyung Korean Cuisine, so I went in and took the smallest table to put my stuff in my backpack.

Then a waiter came to me to give me a menu. I quickly and respectfully greeted him and explained that I just needed to pack my things and would be on my way. Instead of responding kindly, he said, "HERE!!?" in a serious tone, as if I had committed a crime. I replied, "Yes, sorry for that, I'll be done soon!" He then told me, "You just can't do it!" and walked away.

I was shocked because he could have simply provided normal customer service. I had planned to eat at this restaurant in a few days, but I've changed my mind due to this poor behavior. The waiter could have approached me in a more respectful manner. In my current customer service job, I always greet people and guide them through the process. If a customer needs to take care of personal matters and doesn’t want to engage with our products at the moment, I respect that and let them be. Good service can encourage them to return, along with their friends.

In summary, the waiter who approached me offensively needs training on how to treat customers and be polite. Because of his actions, I feel it’s important to show respect for myself by avoiding this restaurant, as they have disrespected me.

I will be posting this review on other websites and reporting this incident to any relevant city hall or organization to make them aware.

You can’t just disrespect someone and walk away—every action has a reaction! I am...

I had an extremely miserable and disappointing experience here tonight, given it was my first time ever at this restaurant.

My husband and I parked our car in the designated area & went in to dine. Half an hour later, our car was being towed away!! Apparently, this restaurant has a treaty between themselves and the towing company.

They charged us $100 in cash for nothing!! Just to drop the car? I mean, seriously? The guy from the towing company seemed to be super arrogant and disrespectful towards us. We returned to the place and got the permit (they should have quickly asked in the beginning whether we had a car or not). Despite showing them the permit, they still charged us $100.

We're both scholars, and we were extremely nice and respectful with either the staff & the BB towing company. But we didn't gain much from them except for a ruined date night & wasted $100 for literally nothing.

Neither the restaurant (staff, manager, etc.) nor the BB were willing to help us (of course, they get easy money).

DO NOT FORGET TO ASK FOR THEIR PERMIT, should you even want to go here. I'd recommend other spots with batter parking & service.

Every action has an opposite & and an equal reaction. I wish I could give 0 stars for the ruined...
