I haven't been to El Potro in a long time. I went back yesterday with my husband and some friends. First of all the waitress was not very welcoming from the beggining. Then when she asked what drinks we wanted, it seemed like she was in hurry for us to order fast. When I asked what kind of margarita they had, she just rolled her eyes and told me to look at the menu (sooo rude). Second of all the food took forever to arrive, one of my friends had to got up to ask for the food, then the waitress never came to our table to ask if we needed something else. My husband had the ask the waitress from the table next to us for another drink. Then we finished eating and our waitress was nowhere to be found and we needed to pay. At this point we were all upset. My husband got up and ask for the check, he paid. And once we were getting up to leave, our waitress appreared again and started picking up the dishes. We didn't even bother looking at her. Our overall experience was just awfull. I've been to places where the food is not that great but if they have friendly staff, your whole experience changes. And by the way we were treated at this place, just made the food even worse. Our overall experience was just bad, and I know for sure I won't be going...
Read moreThe worst food I've had in the greater Boston area. Everything was unseasoned: the guac ($10 for a small cup), the chicken, the rice, the queso, the chips. The "queso" was so liquidy that it resembled the taste and texture of skim milk. The burrito was served in a "deconstructed" manner with the rice, beans, and meat on the inside, and dry melted cheese and sauce poured over, with lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado on the side. The flautas were SOGGY and undercooked! They resembled a small sad roll-up with no crunch and the chicken had no salt or seasoning. It was clear that the food had been laying out long after it was microwaved. We could not finish the plate as we felt ourselves getting nauseated as the meal progressed. There are some serious doubts regarding their food safety handling that should be addressed by the proper authorities. We left the restaurant $70 poorer (chips, guac, queso, burrito, flautas) and genuinely perplexed at how BAD every part of that meal was. Do NOT waste your time or money at this flavorless establishment. You could make better Mexican...
Read moreNormally I don’t get crazy excited about Mexican food, but El Potro changed my mind about that. This by far has been my best experience with Mexican food in Boston, and I’d recommend El Potro to anyone craving the Mexican comfort food and comfort vibes! Even the refried beans (I normally order all rice) were tasty and not mushy at all.
What we ordered: Guacamole: solid guac, no complaints. They give a lot too Tamale: presented beautifully and was delicious, packed with pork and topped with a hot sauce. Chile Relleno: bell pepper stuffed with very juicy carnitas and topped with a nice portion of melted cheese, not skimpy but not too overwhelming. This was my boyfriend's and my favorite dish! Enchilada Trio: 3 shredded beef enchiladas with green, red, and mole sauce. Their mole uses a semisweet chocolate (rather than the bitter dark you find at most restaurants that I don't like), this was a surprising hit for me! The red sauce one was my favorite. We had Churros and Fried Ice Cream for dessert, and the fried ice cream was HUGE. I wouldn't have been able to...
