One of my favorite local ice cream shop with fun and creative flavors.
For years, Gracie’s, along with its sister shop Christina’s, has been my go-to spots for ice cream in Somerville. Known for its imaginative and frequently rotating flavors, Gracie's offers a unique experience that stands out from other local ice cream shops.
My personal favorites include unique flavors like Honey Corn Bread and Carrot Cake. The Honey Corn Bread, in particular, is perhaps my all-time favorite. It really captures the essence of the actual corn bread in a creamy, frozen form.
While I do agree with some of my friends saying that the texture of Gracie’s Ice cream isn’t the best, it still has a solid firmness with just the right level of creaminess. They also offer ice cream pies with Oreo crusts, a decadent option if you’re looking for something different. However, these are stored in low-temp freezers, which slightly affects their texture compared to the regular ice creams.
Nevertheless, if you’re looking for an ice cream shop with whimsical flavors after a meal near Union Square, I recommend...
Read moreMy partner and I visited about 2 weeks ago and had a rather disappointing experience. I've provided details regarding the experience below:
We shared a 2-scoop dish with one scoop each of a black raspberry flavor and a mint flavor.
The ice cream itself was very subpar. It was texturally somewhat gritty and icy at the same time as being very soft right from the outset. The only redeeming factor about this is that the ice cream here is considerably cheaper than many other overpriced local options (I mean you, JP Licks). It's probably pretty comparable (price-wise) to Lizzy's in Harvard Square.
We entered the store and there was a line of about 4-6 people in front of us. We waited for 2 employees to somehow take nearly 25 minutes to serve those people, by which time we almost left, but we wanted to try the place. We got our ice cream and left, finishing it on the walk home, but finding ourselves generally disappointed. We...

We stopped here for some ice cream after a meal in the area. They have some unique flavors! A green ice-cream caught my eye and I wondered if it was pistachio. Turned out to be something called pandan. I love trying out new flavors, especially where ice-creams are concerned and this fit the bill. Usually I avoid tasting samples since it involves those tiny plastic spoons - one use and into the trash bin they go. But I was pleasantly surprised by their use of wooden spoons (yay!). The pandan was delicious. We got a scoop and one of the best parts was getting torched marshmallow on your cone. Oh yes, it was off the charts. I don't know how to best describe the pandan flavor, floral tasting maybe. Anyway, the texture of the ice-cream was great, not icy or too cold at all.
Service was quick, attentive and pleasant. Will definitely return and look forward to tasting more...
