Pretty good place to shoot pool at, especially on a weekend night. Last Sat nite was crowded (which is good, because I like to socialize with lots of people, on weekends), and was very inexpensive to shoot, there (3 tables in action, and only 5 quarters a game). Much less costly than a standard pool hall, and I don't mind all of the young, rowdy, impaired ones wandering around (and getting wiped out by me, in game after game, either!) Mostly everybody there was friendly, including the bar-keeps, and I even brought my "main squeeze" with me, last Sat nite--and she was impressed with what a "happening place" it was, in Somerville, nowadays. I also shoot regularly at the Royal, and the Northside, but sometimes there aren't enough other shooters, at the Royal, and the Northside sometimes has a live band, and closes their only pool table (which doesn't work for me, at all!) I don't mind hard core and death metal, but when I come to such a raucous place, I want to shoot pool, or get bored quickly, just listening to music. Besides, it's hard to socialize with chicks, with all of that loud music playing (because they can't hear you, when you try to talk to them)--but everyone is interested in a good game of pool, win, lose, or draw--and nobody gives me any grief with a pool cue stick in my hands, while knocking around those rock hard balls, on the table--and I even enjoyed a quick game of air hockey, with my "main squeeze", too! So, if you like shooting, like me, then come down to the "Hotel", brush aside some of the crowd, and win a few games! Ha...
Read moreNever in my life seen a worse bartender or been pissed off more at someone in service industry . I ordered 2 coronas and the bartender without saying anything to welcome someone ,pointed to the fridge of beers. I thought maybe she didn’t have anymore at the bar , so I grab 2 beers and pay for my beers with the other bartender. I didn’t know the drinks from the fridge were for take out only. Well, the bartender who told me to go to the fridge made sure that I know in the worse way possible. I had my beer in my hand and she just grabs out of my hand along with the tip I left for the bartender. She said in the most rude tone ever “This is only for take out”. When I explained to her that I ordered the 2 beers but you told me to grab them from the fridge she acted as I had made the worst crime in state of New Jersey. At this point I was so mad at the way she acted, I asked for the tip back because I wasn’t provided a service)I tipped 100% of the bill) , she gives me 50 Cents which wasn’t what I tipped. I started arguing with her and she threatens to call the police. I used to be a bartender and a waiter and always make sure to tip generally and be nice to service workers. Someone like her shouldn’t be in a business that deals with people. She should be a prison guard. I went to this place because it had good reviews but it will be first and last time stepping...
Read moreStopped in here quiet a bit ago. At the time didn't think much of it... just another bar. But, once I walked in. Kinda caught me by surprise. Very homey. Great size bar. Best part everybody was friendly. Wasn't your typical bar with over priced drinks. Mixed drinks were not overdone. Chilled glasses, mixed appropriately. BEST part is, it is owned by a local intown volunteer fireman. I will gladly support anyone of our hometown heros. Police, fire, ems definitely welcome! Owner is a down to earth funny guy! So, then some time went by and I hadn't been there in a while. Covid happened and I returned about a week or so ago. Clearly someone has been busy during shutdown. New floor, bar redone, pool tables recovered, fancy lights, and they now have AIR HOCKEY AND SHUFFLE BOARD. Totally different atmosphere! Even better then it was before. I personally think the whole new mask policies are b.s. but with that said, the owner does his very best to make sure everyone complies with the new regulations. Zero complaints from me. With that said, if you are that worried about covid... you probably shouldn't be out in public. Stay home or leave your feelings at the door if your coming out to have a good time, do so. If you are coming out to whine... you should probably stay home. Made a new friend. Thanks for the hospitality Tom! Definitely got a new regular...
