We had an amazing night Friday night celebrating my Dad’s 90th birthday week at Chestnut Hill. I have been many times, but only in the bar at happy hour, which is my favorite place to go! This was my first experience of making a dinner reservation for the dining room, and I was a little nervous that it might disappoint, compared to happy hour. Not so!!! we had an amazing server name Michael, who was assisted later by a female, but I cannot remember her name. They were both wonderful. We have never had so much food and everything was delicious! We ended up taking a bag of leftovers away that weighed 4.5 pounds on my bathroom scale! My parents being 88 and 90 do not eat big quantities anymore so they shared the seafood pasta Alfredo. It was brimming with shrimp and scallops and even though they split one entrée they had enough leftover for last night to share again. I got the small portion of shrimp and grits, which was enough for two meals for me as well! We got full before we even got our entrées on the yummy muffin basket they brought at the beginning. Every meal comes with the bread, a crisp cold salad, and potatoes and mixed vegetables. We each ate about half of our salad, but it was delicious! They make the most yummy homemade ranch dressing here. We also ended up with a half basket of onion rings because I had raved about how they were the best I’ve ever eaten and we ended up bringing most of those home as well. I had put in the reservation that it was my dad‘s 90th so at the end of the evening they brought him a complimentary piece of Keylime pie which we took home. Last night everyone had the leftover onion rings and entrées and my vegetarian granddaughter joined us and ate the potatoes and mixed vegetables so a fantastic meal was had two nights in a row! The key lime pie was the second one of the week but by far the best one of the two! Definitely seemed homemade. I can’t say enough about the food or the service! This restaurant has been around since the 70s and I can see why, do yourself a favor and try...
Read moreMy husband and I recently visited this restaurant in Myrtle Beach and were so disappointed. We were placed in a back room with a very large bus tour group who were loud. I asked to be moved, but was told there were no other available tables. The group did quiet once their food arrived, so that was fine. I guess since we weren't with the group and we were the only ones in the room that were not, we were forgotten. We waited a long time before asking someone if we could please order. We weren't brought bread and had to ask for it from a passing by waiter who was caring for the party. My husband's entre came, but he had never been brought his salad. When I caught a passing server and told him, he said "sorry" and walked away. I was expecting our mystery waiter or a manager to appear but one did not. Our food was good. I ordered the dinner salad. It was huge and fresh. My husband had the blackened seafood platter and he was well pleased with his fish and the side of mixed vegetables. He especially liked the sauce that came on the side. When we were ready to leave, a manager appeared and began telling a staff member how to reset up the room for the next group of diners. I caught her attention and told her we felt we had been forgotten and although the food was good, we did not have good service, and that hubby never got a salad. She offered to "buy" us the house dessert. We were full so we asked that she only bring one to share. The dessert was a hot mixed fruit cobbler with a crumbled crust, a la mode. It was very good. Her explanation for the poor service we received was that she wasn't planning on sitting anyone in that area with the tour group and had not assigned our table to a waiter. I would have preferred to be told there weren't any available tables and we would have went somewhere else. My husband left a tip because that's just who he is. I'm not sure who we were tipping. If we return it will be...
Read moreWe decided to come here for our anniversary. When my husband made the reservation, he asked for a table by the window looking out onto the pond. Upon arrival to the restaurant, the host (who we later found out was the manager) told us that there were no available tables overlooking the pond. I told him it was our anniversary, hoping he might let us sit at one of the empty tables overlooking the pond, or at the very least he might wish my husband and I, “Happy Anniversary!” Instead, he gave us a blank stare and informed us that it would be a 45 minute wait to sit at the window. We decided not to wait. I was dismayed that, at no point during our visit, no other patrons were sat at any of those empty tables. We found out from our waitress that this was the manager. So I took off a star for this.
Otherwise, I would recommend this restaurant with a trendy flair for the unusual. Art deco that is somewhere between the romantic era and the 70’s adorn their cozy dining room. Our server was on point at every step of the meal, and gave us a dessert on the house for our anniversary. The food was fabulous! Button sized muffins, biscuits, and corn bread were served with our drinks. The She Crab Soup was delectable with enough fresh crab meat to fill each and every bite. The complimentary salad with cranberries was a nice added touch. My oysters were the best I have ever had, and my husband enjoyed his seafood platter just as much. The side of vegetable medley seamed more like a garnish to me. Regardless, there was more than enough food that it would be hard to leave unsatisfied. Overall, the Chestnut Hill Restaurant is...
