I like to try Mexican offerings in the Upstate, especially the family owned ones. When I read that Cucho's was run by a father-son team I was instantly charmed. I'd heard lots of good things about this restaurant online. The colors, music and atmosphere of this restaurant is top notch. I love the traditional Mexican Dia de Los Muertes aesthetic with sugar skulls and bright colors, and it is really fitting here. I got a couple asada and birria tacos and they were great, fresh toppings and super juicy and flavorful.
With that being said, my experience at Cucho's was really bad. I don't plan on returning. When we got there, the kitchen was clearly backed up and a line started to form after we placed our order. It took about 45 minutes total to get our food when later orders came out before ours.
Our food came out in two separate phases, and when we got our asada fries after close to an hour, they tasted and looked like they sat out for a week. I have a suspicion that our food was "forgotten" with the rush. We were getting out of our booth to get a refund for our missing food when it got brought to our table. Unlike my street tacos, the "steak" was dry and flavorless, the fries were stale and tough; with an overabundance of salt. The cheese was basically absent and the whole platter was drowning in some kind of spicy mayo, totally killing the flavor profile.
Another complaint: There is no other way to get a refill except wait in line at the counter. When my girlfriend brought our drinks up for a refill the girl behind the counter was really rude and unhelpful.
We were really turned off from Cucho's and probably won't come back. Maybe we caught y'all at a bad time, but service should still be paramount no matter what happens. I hope you can hire better staff that care because the food I got was...
Ā Ā Ā Read morei can't believe this place is a chain. my husband brought me home the shrimp burrito one day less than a week ago, and i was actually angry the next day. I was angry because i couldn't stop thinking about it, and this place is too far away for us to have it on a regular basis.
I'm so obsessed with that burrito, we had chuco's again last night (6 days later, which never happens for us for a location almost 30 minutes away). I told my son that I'm considering divorcing his father to marry the shrimp burrito. he balked at the idea, but i assured him that Shrimp Burrito is probably very successful, so I'm marrying for money instead of love this time. my husband couldn't argue with my logic; he completely understands, because their birria tacos make him feel pretty much the same way.
what I'm getting at, is that this place is delicious. you won't be disappointed. we visited in person on a Thursday night, and while they weren't busy in-store, they were slammed with food delivery orders, so their drive-thru was closed (that is one caveat: they close their drive-thru when they'reoverwhelmed). the staff is incredibly kind for how busy they clearly are!
please open a location closer to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTo save reading time, go with the bowls here. More later. I had mixed feelings about this place. We went with another couple and we all thought the food was good, but we were not enamored with the overall experience. FIRST, their ordering process is quirky. Upon completing your order you get a number card. It most restaurants, that means someone will bring your order when ready. Not here. You have to listen for your number and then go back to the counter to get it, even though they have staff just stand around doing not much. SECOND, the tacos are quite small for the price charged. I know pricey āgourmetā tacos are a thing now, but this would not qualify as a gourmet restaurant but rather a quick drop-in eatery. Our simple dinner for two still came in at over $25 with tip (which was expected at the time of ordering). Given the lack of any service, I would not tip next time. THIRD, one of us ordered a bowl which actually came in a styrofoam container. She was the only one who felt they had enough to eat and even took some home. The rest of us were still hungry when we left. Bottom line? Given all the nearby options, this is not a place that I...
