I used to be a regular for dine-in lunch at Akashi before COVID-19 as it was my favorite Japanese spot since i work in the area.During the time Covid-19 was at it worst, they changed to take-out only so I patronized the restaurant only twice during that period, as I realized the food just didn’t taste the same as when I dined in.When Covid-19 passed and all other restaurants re-opened for dine-in,Akashi was the only restaurant still doing take-out only, which made no sense at all. However, when I saw that they re-opened for dine-in,I had to pay them a visit.I work in the area and I am not looking to spend too much on lunch so their lunch specials pre Covid-19 used to be perfect for me.I visited the restaurant for lunch this week and asked the waitress about their lunch specials, however she told me that they no longer have any lunch specials but I could get a combination dinner instead. From the time I heard that,I felt like leaving the restaurant.Instead of leaving right away,I took a few minutes to browse through the menu and when I saw the combination dinners were for $29.00,I was like no way I am paying that much for lunch when I can get a lunch special at another Japanese restaurant which is just as good as this restaurant for $10-13.I decided to leave the their restaurant without eating anything and go to another Japanese restaurant which was a few minutes away and I got a lunch special with the same items as their combination dinner for only $12.95.It was great and I think that will be my new go to Japanese spot.Management at Akashi has to realize that people are not looking to spend that much money at lunch so when you are asking them to pay $30 for a lunch, they will go elsewhere where the food tastes just as good,if not better and get it for $10-13.If they continue to operate in this way,I don’t see people patronizing their restaurant anymore and they will go elsewhere as there is no value for money at their restaurant as their is so much competition with regards to Japanese restaurants in the area which are way...
Read moreWOW! Not the food the reviews! Google has been flooded with untruthful reviews or the reviewers are lacking taste buds... Anyways, I will supply my unbiased opinion of this place having been a recent patron at this establishment merely 1 week ago. At first, I thought the interior was cool and modern and had a good feel. The next thing I know is the waiter is placing on the table what appears to be a sushi roll with ketchup on it! I politely ask "which roll is this" (knowing I had ordered no such roll). Her reply was "spicy tuna." Hmmm... ok I'll try it. What I thought to be ketchup was some sort terrible sriracha concoction... nothing more than an abomination to country of Thailand itself. The so called "special roll" that my wife ordered had brown mushy avocado on it that appeared to have once been frozen. After being asked "how is everything?" to which I politely gave her my most truthful answer, she asks if I need a TO GO BOX! Looking at her bewildered then glancing at my wife who looked as equally bewildered, I quickly summed up there must have been some sort of language breakdown. I not exactly sure how this place stays open. It would have rather used the $40 dollars I spent as toilet paper, or better yet spent the money at Publix and bought 3 day old sushi. The only satisfaction you can obtain from going here is learning that this is worst sushi restaurant in south fl. To know greatness, you must experience the terrible and THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE. Do not trust the previous reviewers! They know not what they eat or they have not experienced great sushi I plan on posting...
Read more3 out of 5 stars for wait and service. One of the worst service I’ve experienced in any restaurant. I have worked for mom and pop restaurants(like this one) and I’ve worked for franchises. They need to hire more people and managers who are good leaders. They need to read Attitude 101, leadership 101, and teamwork 101 by John C. Maxwell. I actually did not rate them any worse because the food is decent and the price is SPECTACULAR. The place is a TINY whole in the wall even though it’s its own tiny building. Roughly 13 tables and only 2-3 waitresses that are doing other work besides waiting tables. If you order out, be prepared to call ahead and wait over an hour at any given time. There is no waiting area so you will be standing for quite some time in the middle of the restaurant like a weirdo waiting for the takeout order. If you happen to go during a slow time, your wait to be seated won’t be more than 5 minutes, hopefully, and you’ll be standing by the entrance. Overall if you don’t care for Service I HIGHLY recommend this place for sushi!!! If you’re like me I will GLADLY pay more in another high quality sushi restaurant with good service. My 2...
