Subway — Restaurant in South Middleton Township

I love Subway as much as the next guy. Which makes it all the more depressing when I have an awful experience, especially at what used to be my favorite location. I assume that this Subway is under new management since I was last here, as the manager seemed to care more about yelling at his kids (who were sitting at a table in the empty restaurant) rather than engaging with a customer. The four people I talked to behind the counter never smiled, never asked "How are you?", and offered nothing in terms of basic manners. Not a single person could muster enough positivity to even pretend like they wanted to be there. I did not have a large order, and there was only one other customer in the store other than myself. I was as kind and efficient as a customer could be. To cap things off nicely, the lettuce and spinach was browning and looked sickly, which is concerning as lettuce/salad is the number one cause of food poisoning. I do not blame the employees, I place all blame on the manager as they are the one responsible for emphasizing customer service and for maintaining quality standards. The singular reason this review is listed as five stars is so that it is shown more prominently within the reviews, and others can hopefully gain some insight into this location before placing your order. In the past I've gotten some great Subway salads in the past, but not today. After a very long wait, I asked for a chicken salad with spinach. I was given a small amount of old dark green and not fresh spinach. I got a few other things like tomato, cukes, pickles, peppers. The salad bowl was half full. I was very disappointed as my husband's salad was a decent size. After the box was closed and my husband was paying, I did request extra spinach to be put on top, unchopped, because I didn't want to hold up the line. (One of employees took so long to put gloves on it was holding things up.) When I got home with the salad, I realized they (the slow to glove person) did not ask about dressing, so I used my own oil and vinegar and chopped my spinach and while eating it, had to pull the bad wilted stuck together slime spinach out of the bowl. This was my favorite Subway....the food is always good, the service is always great. It wasn't tonight. I tried to order my one sub online, but I missed the 8:30pm cut off by one minute. So I rushed over arriving at 8:42 to find the open sign off and annoyed looks by the staff. The girl sweeping asked myself and the woman in front of me how many subs we were ordering at the door. (Were you going to refuse my business depending on how many subs we wanted?). Unfortunately I did not get her name, but the taller girl with dark hair was pleasant throughout my visit. I left at 8:54, and watched as the girl with glasses (seen sweeping earlier) locked the doors at 8:57pm. I used to work at a few Subways, and currently work in a retail environment.
