You can’t have a restaurant business with a mess like this one has . The food might be good but you need to have some process and steps to manage customers who are dining in. Stopped by on a Sunday evening with my family after hearing some good reviews from friends. The moment we entered there were a bunch of college going kids ( 3-4 maybe) confused at the reception. One of them asked to go to a table and another one to some other table . We requested if you could get a booth and they reluctantly said Ok. Being non veg lovers , we ordered Goat paaya soup and chilli lotus stems ( better half loves that) and a chicken mandi biriyani fr main course which was recommended by a friend. Also ordered the cheese naan for our kid who doesn’t eat spicy food, actually wanted to order noodles but was told it’s nt available now and that was perfectly fine. After 20 mins or so we asked if the Naan was ready fr the kid and our server said they wd check. In another 5 mins or so they brought the cheese naan and we were really happy that the kid could start eating. Another 10 mins or so , we actually asked if they cd check on the appetizers as it was already 30 mins since we ordered and the restaurant had only 4-5 tables occupied and doesn’t seem much busy at that point of time ( it was 7.30 pm ). The chilli lotus stems came and they were actually good . We were little hungry by that time and started finishing those lotus stems whn my wife stopped and asked me to save some space fr the goat paaya soup as well and the biriyani . We had ordered the food at 7 pm sharp and now it was about 7.40 pm , so we asked our server if she cd check if the soup was at least ready . She went in , came back and said we r sorry there is no goat paaya soup . Really ? You say this after 40 mins of ordering ? The chicken mandi Biriyani came at 7.45 and that was the really good but we were dissapointed at the way they informed us about the goat paaya soup nt being available .
Guys you need to do a better job of managing the tables . You can’t have 4-5 college kids running all over the restaurant and asking each other if something’s available and something’s not. Also while we were there waiting fr our food 2 ppl came to ask if we have already ordered , and while I appreciate that, a better way wd have been to assign servers to tables so that you don’t go arnd asking a table if they have ordered food.
Long story short , food is good ( for what we cd get) and the service is not . I would probably do the takeaway for some stuff and give it another try , might need to call n ask after 20 mins of ordering if what I ordered was available as they seem confused abt what they have and what they do not . But not going there to dine in...

Read moreDuring a recent trip from Toronto to New Jersey, I had the pleasure of having lunch at Desi Dhamaka, located at 6001 Hadley Rd, South Plainfield – and it turned out to be one of the most unforgettable meals I’ve had. The flavors were so bold and authentic that comparing it to food back home in Toronto wouldn’t be fair. This restaurant sets a whole new standard for Indian cuisine in North America.
We began our meal with appetizers that were absolute showstoppers. The Lotus Root Fry was perfectly crisp, with a unique texture and deep, spicy flavor. The Karivepaku Kodi Fry (curry leaf chicken fry) was bursting with South Indian soul – spicy, aromatic, and incredibly satisfying.
Then came the mains – and they completely stole the show. The Potlam Biryani, wrapped delicately in an omelette, was not only visually stunning but packed with layers of rich, complex flavors. The Mandi was equally outstanding – the rice was fragrant and flavourful (definitely not bland), with every bite infused with the essence of expertly blended spices and tender meat.
We ended on a sweet note with some delightful desserts, and just when we thought it couldn’t get better, the Paan and Goli Soda were served – a nostalgic and authentic Indian touch that brought the whole experience full circle.
What made the visit even more special was meeting Chandrakanth, the passionate soul behind Desi Dhamaka. His warmth, dedication, and love for food shine through in every dish. It’s clear that he’s not just running a restaurant – he’s creating an experience rooted in tradition and flavor. Hats off to him for bringing such quality and authenticity to the table.
And to top it all off, the cost was very economical – great food, generous portions, and honest pricing.
Whether you’re local or visiting from out of town like we were, Desi Dhamaka is a must-visit. I’d happily make the trip from Toronto again just for another bite. Thank you, Chandrakanth, for an incredible meal...
