As a South Indian, I understand the struggle. Finding a restaurant that captures the magic of my mother's cooking is a quest filled with disappointment. I may have stumbled upon a hidden gem in the heart of South Plainfield: A2B.
Stepping into A2B is like entering a familiar yet elevated version of your favorite dosa joint back home. The air is filled with the enticing aroma of spices, the sizzle of dosas hitting the griddle, and the comforting chatter of fellow South Indian patrons. The décor is simple and clean, with a touch of traditional charm, allowing the focus to remain solely on the food.
And what food it is! My heart (and stomach) did a happy dance at the first bite of their medu vadas. They were crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and bursting with the perfect balance of lentil flavors. No mushy, flavorless imposters here, just pure vada perfection!
The uttapams followed suit, each bite a symphony of soft, spongy rice batter topped with a generous medley of onions, and spices. We also ventured into dosa territory, savoring the crispy, paper-thin goodness of the Mysore Masala Dosa and the buttery richness of the Ghee Roast. Each bite was a testament to the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the cooks.
And of course, no South Indian meal is complete without a thali. A2B's version is a delightful spread of small, flavorful dishes from the tangy sambar to the creamy dal, the most delicious vegetables, crunchy papad to the perfectly cooked rice, it was a feast for the senses.
Finally, we ended the journey with hot, frothy filter coffees, the perfect way to cleanse the palate and leave us feeling warm and content.
But what truly sets A2B apart is not just the delicious food, but the service. They understand that sometimes you just want to enjoy your meal in peace, without being constantly fussed over. The staff is attentive yet unobtrusive, allowing you to savor each bite without feeling rushed.
Now, let's be honest, even A2B can't quite replicate my mom's cooking. Her love, her secret spices, the years of memories woven into every dish – those are irreplaceable. But A2B comes pretty darn close. It's a place where you can find the familiar flavors of home, cooked with care and skill, in a setting that feels both comfortable and modern.
So, if you're a South Indian yearning for a taste of home, look no further than A2B South Plainfield. It might not be your mother's kitchen, but it's a pretty darn...
Read more1st time here. Maybe the last. Went here with my family. Decor and ambience is nice. I had heard a lot of things and I dig South Indian dishes so decided to finally try the location at South Plainfield. They have a total of 3.
They have an ample.amount of servers, stewards, hosts and busboys. In the 1st 10 minutes we sat we were asked by at least 3 different hosts to place an order. We were busy chatting hence were getting delayed. Eventually we decided to take a minute and order the food.
Our order was taken by a completely different person. Food came quickly which was nice. They served one dish which wasn't what I had ordered but I thought my partner ordered it so I digged in to taste it, and we later realised neither had ordered it and we called someone different, as our guy had disappeared. He asked another guy who said that we ordered that dish. Both of them.went to a senior staff member and he came to me and said yes that's what you ordered. I was very embarrassed as I had not ordered it and nor did I know the name of the dish.
I politely insisted to check the person who took my order. All 3 called him and he looked through our order and agreed that I hadn't ordered it and I was right. So I told him I had already eaten a couple of bites from that plate and since you will be throwing it away anyways serve it to me on the house and I will cancel my order which hadn't arrived yet so we don't waste food .you guys made such an issue of this and were not even polite. This person just kept bobbing his head saying yes to everything I said and eventually took that dish from which I had eaten away .I hope he didn't serve it to the original person who must have placed the order.
After that one of the senior looking members came to my table and I relayed the whole incident to him. He apologized on the waiters behalf. My sons dad had ordered a Thali and I didn't like a bunch of entrees from it. My son had noodles and soup, they were good .so was the rasam. The watermelon juice was too pulpy and not filtered appropriately.
I think I prefer my other venues for south indian cravings. This one experience did it for me. Not...
Read moreVisited here on 11/23: One of the worst experiences. Few Staff here at A2B South Plainfield (specifically the guy with the french beard named Faisal, not sure he is the Manager or someone) bestows "0%" human value (or) respect. Despite the food quality being decent enough, the staff working there don't show mere respect to the customers. Last week I had visited with my family of 5 with my 1 year toddler. Out of the 5 visited, one of my parents was very sick. Neither food nor beverage was ordered for that person. We specifically told no service was done for that person. They charged 20% gratuity and they are yelling at the customers right behind the table we were sitting and even after we left the restaurant someone told me they are still yelling about this. Imagine why should anyone pay 20% gratuity just for serving 4 people out of 5 even though the table number count says "5" -- is that my problem.?? I am not really sure who actually frames these meaningless rules.?? Even the table number says "5" and if only "4" people sit, service is done only for "4" NOT "5"
We politely explained when we received the check and do you know what the Answer was " They don't care what we say and they just follow the books since table count says "5" they will charge.. And that too the reply was so blatantly rude . So do you think we deserve this??. On top of this, few of the other staff also demand tips. I visit this place quite often and I have seen this same rude behavior many a times. I restricted myself but this time I felt it needs a great shout out 👌Staff over there really have a bad attitude.
Think twice before you guys plan to go there, and unless this issue is resolved and they apologize to me, I won't hesitate to spread this it to other people and create an awareness.
Ideally, I believe that gratuity must be charged only for the "NO of people being served for eg :-5 or more people in a table being serviced since more number of people require greater amount of service and NOT just merely counting the heads in the table who are SITTING IDLE ON A TABLE. #A2B South Plainfield #Adyar...
