Taste by Spellbound II — Restaurant in South Windsor

I was going to save my review- and not post it. However the owner just continuously disappoints. I called for a wedding cake tasting, they only had specific Saturdays and they were booked out two months. But the taste of these sweets are to die for. So yes I’m willing to wait. 2 months rolls around and it’s a snow day so they called & said they needed to cancel (it wasn’t a blizzard) We picked up mini dry cakes and tiny 2oz soufflé cups of frosting and filling. Super disappointing for $60, my SO and I made a date night out of it however. Wedding day rolls around hundreds of dollars on a 3 tier cake. (It was beautiful) but my cake topper was missing. I called the cafe in Avon -no avail. We cut open the cake and the filling was supposed to be a raspberry jam and it was potentially raspberry but it was pink cream ( that is not what we tasted when we did our cake tasting) Called them when I had a few seconds in the car on our honey moon. They seemed confused and denied it originally- I asked them to check and they seemed surprised that they had it! They told me they would give me a gift certificate and send my cake topper to my local TBS location. When I went to go pick it up, I guess I was expecting for there to be more then $17 on the gift certificate I paid about that for the topper. However it was custom, hand made and hand painted by someone on Etsy. I put time and effort on picking the perfect one. But in my professional opinion, you screwed up. You forgot my cake topper, and changed my filling of my cake without consulting me. I paid over $700 on a cake and expected more then $17 to make up for it. Maybe even an apology from the owner, not just the sister. I haven’t been back since & I won’t. They are tasty but they lack customer service when they are knowingly in the wrong. I would have kept this to myself but now the owner is posting bad reviews of her shop on her social...

I am VERY picky, because I cook and bake, therefore it's really hard for me to enjoy desserts at restaurants/bakeries. Taste by Spellbound is the FIRST place I've gone to that I can't complain about anything they make. I've tried several cookies, brownies, cakes, ect. Every single one has been beyond my expectations. You can taste all of the quality ingredients in every bite. I wish there were more options at this location, but that is my only complaint. If you want a dessert that you will rave about for days after... than this is the place to go to. Honestly there is a cupcake place right down the road I tried and it was dirt compared to these cupcakes. If you are in the area stop by and you wont be disappointed! Even if your not in the area you should make a trip just to stop in, your taste buds...

With such high ratings and great reviews, I picked TBS for my wife's birthday cake. I ordered a 4" Creme Brule cake for $35. It is expensive, and I was aware of that. The cake looked amazing - a world of art. The pickup experience was fine as well.

However, the taste of the cake itself was absolutely disappointing. The butter cream was extremely hard - basically a layer of sugar. The cake itself was dry and flavorless. The only tasty part was the 2 macaroons they used for decorating. We had to throw away half the cake because none of us could eat it.
