Uptown Consignment — Local services in South Windsor

I’ve been both a buyer and consigner at this store and overall had a very pleasant experience. The store is very lovely, clean and staff are welcoming and helpful. Inventory is amazing.

My experience as a consigner is a bit mixed. I choose consignment for the ease of use, understanding that I’ll always get less than I would on Poshmark, but I avoid the hassle of listing items individually. I think I would caution against bringing any lesser-known “quiet” mid tier luxury brands here. They do advertise as catering to luxury brands and seem to have a system for authentication which is great. However, I consigned a new Lo & Sons genuine leather purse, MSRP $300, and received only $4.00 payout. Thats less than the payout I received for a pair of mall brand jeans.

Youre not given a receipt listing each item or the brands when you consign. I also noticed the brand wasn’t listed in my consigner receipt, which signals to me that the lister may not have been familiar with the brand or the embossed L&S. Based on the payout I received, I deduce that the bag was likely sold for less than than $20, which is an absolute steal.

It’s a bit of a stab to the heart receiving $4 for a designer bag they I could have Poshed for $150+, but lesson learned. I would still recommend this store, but if you’re consigning accessories or leather goods from lesser known high end brands - especially ones that aren’t covered in logos - I would advise putting the extra work in to sell them yourself on Mercari or Poshmark.

I’m praying the like new Oliver Peoples cat eye sunnies I consigned (MSRP $485) don’t suffer...

I have to say I was disappointed as a seller here. I sold here for the first time a few weeks ago. I was told they could take all my items and would "price them the next day." So, basically you have no idea/control over how much they are going to price items at. I went back the next week and I had money available so I asked them "Hey, I just want to see what you priced my worn once $120 Lululemon leggings at. I just want to make sure I am not getting like $10 for them." lol

I said this joking thinking there was no way that could have happened. Well, sure enough, she pulled it up and for my brand new Lulu leggings that were $120 each they sold them for $20 each. My cut was TEN DOLLARS. One person had a coupon so I was told I netted $8 on that sale. So, $18 is what I made off of $240 in leggings.

I also sold a pair of brand new Converse ($65 currently at DSW) which they gave me $6 for.

There seems to be an issue here where either they don't know what they have and are pricing it incorrectly - or maybe they are selling it to friends/employees at a steep discount because they DO know what they have? Those leggings should not have been priced under $60 each so I was really disappointed in how this was handled.

Either way, I should not be netting $24 when I gave the $305 in new merchandise.

And yes, shame on me for not investigating who is pricing and how pricing is done before I dropped the clothing off in the first place.

For the buyer, I suppose this is a great deal but as a seller, I would not suggest selling here unless your clothing is literally just sitting in your closet and you don't care about it. I would have been much better off...

I have been shopping at Uptown since they opened and I cannot say enough good things about them. Clearly, the value there is outstanding, I have more Coach purses than I know what to do with because they are so reasonably priced there, but there is more than just the value. The staff there is outstanding....you go for the value and come back for the customer service., they know their customers by name!! One particular day after my father passed away, I needed to just get out and get my mind on other things. When I walked into the store I was greeted by Barbara, the owner, who gave me the biggest hug and kiss . She didn't know why I was there, I am guessing she figured I was there to shop, but her greeting made my day!!! Every time I go in, someone greets me with a smile!!
