Eatery with a great old school cafe feel to it. My new favorite place. Delicious food. Folksy staff. Wide variety of sweet and savory crepes sized to make a meal. Bar. Bar seating. Fair prices. Kitch decor. Clean restrooms. Within walking distance of most everything "downtown" Southern Pines. Ask for Pepsi if you want fountain cola. Coke if you want a can. Some tables. Some booths. Busy weekend mornings. Always some confusion as to whether one is to seat themselves or wait to be seated. Waiting to be seated line thereby exacerbated by the waiting to pay line. Pay at the counter. Participates in "Where's Waldo." Novelty fan items available for purchase. Counter staff has seemingly not been trained in the industry best practice of refraining from persistently turning one's back to the customers to carry on conversations with co-workers, work-related and otherwise Server staff, like many a place in the Sandhills, serve fountain drink refills from another, larger, plastic glass (not a new glass or serving pitcher), leading knowledgeable tourist customers to likely falsely presume different NC health code standards than other states. Some server staff display verbal difficulty taking ownership of a mistake. Tolerably loud during rushes. Great to dine together or alone. Near free street parking. Picture windows. I am not an expert, but the locale seems wheelchair accessible. For my money, it's the best lunch for the price in the adjoining towns of Southern Pines, Aberdeen, and Pinehurst, also neck-and-neck for first place for best breakfast. Keep a close internet watch on their hours of operation. I'd consider it a perfect Southern Pines day to shop the local businesses, lunch at Betsy's, and then take-in a show at Encore or Sunrise, but timeline-wise that plan would not connect outside of matinees. My hope is that enough people would find this to be the absolute gem that I have so as to produce an influx of business that would warrant a lovely Betsy's sit-down dinner. While I've listed a word or two of detraction, I do wonder if Betsy's knows just how far ahead and superlative it is in comparison so many similarly priced Sandhills options. (My review at this point in time based upon eight visits thus far, 3 morning, one midday, the rest early afternoon...only...
Read moreEverything about this place was the literal WORST. I wanted to pick a great place to try for Valentines Day and I was so excited. Coming from Fayetteville, the drive was long, but was going to be so worth it since most of the reviews were pretty positive! Well if I could give zero stars on everything, I would! From the moment we stepped into the place it was awful. There’s a table right by the door…TERRIBLE. All the tables are so close together that people can barely move out of their seats to use the restroom without having someone scoot in to make way. My husband and I had to stand by the entrance to wait for a table since they didn’t bother to just take our number so we could wait in the car. They then proceed to seat us in the most rickety chairs I’ve ever seen, I was certain I was going to break it at just 150lbs. I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich with sourdough, the Vuitton, and the Pineapple Dream. My husband ordered the cinnamon roll waffle, and the Huevos Rancheros Crepe. Literally everything was so so bad, and the price of it all made it even worse. $55 for both of us! They didn’t even give me the correct sandwich, it was bacon instead of sausage. My dessert crepe tasted sour and there was no blueberries in it like the description stated until I got half way in and found one blueberry, but it was too sour and runny to even continue eating. My husbands waffle also had a very sour taste. He said his crepe “wasn’t awful” but I tasted it and it was just as disgusting as everything else. I really don’t know how some people can think this is good food! The waitresses were also terrible, didn’t even listen at the end when they asked if the food was good. They don’t care! One chef is all they had. This was the most disappointing restaurant I have ever wasted money on. The photo is of the Vuitton and the lack of blueberry mascarpone.
ALSO, they seated two separate parties at the SAME table, and both of the parties were very surprised and confused at what was happening. It’s not like it was a long table, and both parties were all the way at the end. There was one seat separating each party. They took their orders at the same time…it made me uncomfortable just hearing and watching how...
Read moreAmazing Crepes, how can it be!! I could not post a picture of the amazing plates that this restaurant serves as I could not restrain myself from autonomically consuming the sumptuous fare placed before me. With a dazzling menu of stuffed crepes from sweet to savory to scintillating taste bud rapture I failed miserably in trying to find a single offering from the menu that I could show prejudice over any of the other crepe creations. Liking the savory side of life I decided on a basic and traditional ham and cheese filled crepe to test them on. Delivery of the mundane side of the menu to know what skills the back of the cook line possessed. True chefs have the skill to serve you up the ordinary that is prepared with artful finesse thus making the ordinary fare to be extraordinary and they did not disappoint. The service was friendly, efficient, knowledgeable of the menu offerings and answered every question I could through at them pertaining to their plates. Color, texture, subtle flavors and perfect execution on stuffing and plating the delicate crepe drapery was a solid 10! From the coffee to the last triangle of a buttery vanilla tasting Belgian waffle. Three dishes and three sides shared among three of us left each diner wishing they had ordered what the other had received. This elegant and charming restaurant will not disappoint in flavor or in funding as they are modestly priced and model excellence as a restaurateur. 1-10 with 10 being u-turn and reprogram the GPS with their address. This place is a solid lock it in and rip...
