The Hidden Gem in Southfield needs some help. Two stars only because my shrimp and chicken pasta was actually decent.
In a world of Rona still on the horizon, I appreciated a place where it was not crowded. My best friend and I arrived eager to try this black establishment and tried to block out the negative mentality that usually comes with visiting black places. We get in, a table of 8 was just finishing. My Friend asked “do you have any high chairs I can seat her in?” pointing to a 10 month old baby. “Unfortunately we do not, but we can sit you in a booth.” We proceed to this long booth. We sat & chit chatted, by this time the table of 8 had left. We were waiting for the waiter to take a drink order, he finally gets the drinks and one was not what I stated, but I ignored the error, but was like come on now, NOBODY is in here.
By this time we’re ready to order, “would you like any appetizers?” was the question the waiter asked. Oh yes the spinach & artichoke dip. The waiter goes, “I guess I should tell you what we don’t have. We don’t have the spinach dip nor wing dings.” I looked at my watch, it said 2:45pm, then I looked at the waiter and asked, “what time do you close?” He replies back, “Oh we close at 11pm.” Interesting…
So there we sat 2 adults and a 10 month old, also just an FYI no alcoholic beverages are provided, but you can BYOB and pay them to open it. TUH The waiter did not use anything to write down the entree orders because he was going off of memory. My friend ordered a salad, no salad ever came, the waiter came back after 20 minutes of taking our order to refill water glasses, I asked about the salad, he goes “oh I totally forgot, let me go ring it in now.” My friend declined and asked about the food. He told us the food is coming out soon.
Another 20 minutes goes by and the food bell is tapped. No food comes to our table, the food bell was tapped again, this time doubled, no food comes to the table. The 3rd bell tap the food comes. Cajun shrimp and chicken Pasta looks good and tastes good, Salmon was over cooked, yams were good and the baby’s French fries & yams were the only things hot.
Gratuity is automatically included with no kind of fore warning. $14.25 is what our waiter, Malik, got for lack luster service in a building where there were 2 adults and a 10 month old baby inside. We sat there like this is when your killer customer service skills should have been on full display. The restroom needs to be remodeled or just updated with the necessities. No toilet paper holder, handles broke on sinks, it smelled like cigarettes and a funky air freshener.
This is a place where you tell your self that it’s not necessary to go...
Read moreI wanted to like this place so bad. Our date night got off to a late start so we were excited to find them still open after 10:30. The concept, the ambiance, the location all pluses. But that’s the extent of what I liked. The food was terrible! Or as mentioned in other reviews that I didn’t see to after the fact. “horrendous”. Imagine the food being nasty and over priced. First of all I ordered the NY strip and my date ordered the lamb chops with the salmon bites. They didn’t have any of those items, so instead we ordered the curry Chicken and the jerk chicken and we ordered crabcakes as an appetizer. Originally, we were told we could substitute our sides which we both did, and After taking our order the waitress returned and informed us that we could not Substitute the sides, and they would be charged separately for each one. This was surprising as at most places this would not have been the case but we were already there so we said okay. The $25 crab cakes had no flavor or seasoning and was very tiny for the price. Skip this dish you will be disappointed. The curry was lukewarm, the rice was under cooked. Skip this. The jerk chicken was spicy but blend. Skip. Now the over priced individually priced sides. The yams was dry, tasteless and straight out the can. The greens were under seasoned and oddly watery. The macaroni and cheese Nearly burned my tongue off. It gave very much just warmed up in the microwave in a glass bowl. It was way too hot to be serving and it was nasty. Even the pink lemonade had no sugar. I really wanted to like this place, And even with all the overcharging I could have, But the quality and taste of the food was nonnegotiable and they dropped the ball. To say the food was subpar, would be giving it too much credit. The leftovers weren’t even worth, packaging and taking home and there was lots. But all of that the bad food, the waitress, The curry chicken coming out before the appetizer they still had the nerve to charge a 18% automatic Gratuity. They should’ve been paying me gratuity for the Insufferable conditions of the food. To be honest is best to just skip this place...
Read moreDon’t know where to begin. My family and I had a Horrible experience. First off I made reservations for 11:00 Brunch buffet on a Sunday. We get there and they explain that unfortunately they don’t have the Buffet today because they are short staffed in the kitchen We would have to order off the Brunch menu. Ok I understand that. I bring my bottle of champagne for Mimosas because they don’t have a liquor license. There is a 10.00 cork fee. Well the waitress informed me that they don’t have any orange juice yet but the owner is on his way. Should be there before 12:00. He never showed up. So no orange juice. The food was terrible. My pancakes were so hard I couldn’t even cut them. They did bring another order of Pancakes. Shrimp and grits were disgusting no flavor with only 3 shrimps. I ordered a vegetarian omelette. After we had just about finished our meal. The waitress tells me the cook didn’t see the omelette on my order and he can make it now. I said never mind we are just about done. The Manager and waitress were very apologetic for our terrible experience. I do understand it was not their fault. The owner needs to take some accountability on how his Restaurant is Run. Paris was our waitress she was absolutely wonderful. She was the only good thing about our dine in experience. About 12:30 The head chef arrived and comes to apologize also. Did give those in my party a free Dessert that wanted it. I am so disappointed and I would not recommend this restaurant for Brunch. I hope dinner is better. In my opinion this place needs to stay Hidden and get a more reliable...
