We arrived on a Monday night around 7:30. There were two young women at the greeter's booth. They answered our questions and wrote down our name, but were otherwise not very interested in us. No smiles, poor eye contact, looked down at the list when talking. Simply put, very poor training.
We decided to sit at the bar to have a drink while waiting. My wife was looking at the wine list. I was planning on a beer, but the list was weak. It looked like it was put together by the distributor rather than someone who knows beer. It was national bands with a couple of locals. Mostly lagers. Kiddie beer.
I asked the bar tender if there was a porter or stout that was not on the menu. She looked confused and then pointed out the Guinness. I decided to have a glass of wine and asked for a few more minutes to decide. The bar tender made a face to indicate her annoyance and walked away.
At that point, my wife, who had suggested that we try the place, said 'Let's go. If I'm going to order a $24 glass of wine, I don't want to feel as if I'm an inconvenience. '
I can't imagine that we'll be back, but we're not the target audience. The place is clearly oriented towards business men who are looking for a generic dining and bar experience. Simple drink orders, beer brands that they know, attractive female staff, price points driven by expense accounts. People who eat at Chili's on there own dime and seek to step it up when on the road. A step up, but it's not a place to take a client.
We never got a look at a menu, but I would expect that it's pretty generic as well. I've found that the way that the front of the house is run usually signals the quality of the back of the house. If that's not the case, the food manager should take some action.
Last thought: from a purely business perspective, they seem to be leaving a lot of money on the table. We may not be the target audience, but we were in the house and ready to spend and tip well. All that they had to do was not...
Read moreUpdate: Went again and got treated so badly by Miriam.
From the very beginning she was giving us attitude (birthday celebration, party of over 6 so automatic gratuity) maybe because we were young? Or she knew she was going to get automatic gratuity?
She was asking things in a very snarky tone like “Are you guys only going to order appetizers or?”Um, no? It’s normal to take time decide and order apps in the meantime as a large party…
When she was checking all of our IDs (asked for it very VERY rudely btw) she was doing the absolute most. Bending our IDs, scratching them, flipping them over, moving it around to confirm the coating or whatever all while being completely silent. It just seemed like she was looking for an issue with anything.
Asked her to substitute a side (which I have always always done and never had an issue with) with another side and she cut me off mid sentence and only said “I won’t be able to do that” without even letting me finish my sentence or even looking at me..
Had to try to flag her down for absolutely everything as she was ignoring the table. Water refills, etc. She was checking up on all her other tables though.
Just very bad vibes from her and she put an overall damper on the birthday celebration at a place I’ve had good experiences at otherwise.
Old review: Service is slow sometimes but they are SUPER nice. Super busy! Food is so good here. The toffee pudding was amazing! I got the ribeye and it was so flavorful and cut like butter. Delicious! Loved the seasonal veggies, the golden beets were delicious.
They keep getting my review taken...
Read moreMoxie’s is my favorite place to go for any occasion but truly the ONLY place I go every time I hit a new milestone in my journey as a Cancer Survivor.
Three years ago I celebrated my 10 years cancer free and although alone where family and friends couldn’t be with me in a new city, the Moxie staff took such great care of me and I felt all their love. I cherish this memory a lot.
Three years later, I’ve recovered from those hip surgeries, recovered the injuries that kept me in a boot all last year, bringing my body back to a normal after finding out I have PCOS and working on that new life balance.
Today I ran my first 5k since all these struggles that came crashing down 3 years ago and there was no other place I wanted to have a meal at other than Moxie’s.
Although the Hostess knew nothing about me, her warm smile is what I needed since today I ran that 5k on my own as well. (I promise I have friends and family in town now but this was something I had to do for myself). I had a friend meet me at Moxie’s for my post run celebration meal. Lovely and awesome Kyle took great care of me. I so appreciate him taking the time to ask about my morning and made me feel extra special and celebrated. Thank you to the manager that treated me to my absolute fave, the Key Lime Pie.
Thank you for all you do and for taking care of your customers so great. Although I love all Moxie’s, the Southlake location has my heart. I’ll be back November 30th for my 13th Year Cancer Free and WITH many village...
