I stopped by to get an iced coffee, and the younger girl working there acted like she did not care about her job. I went to pay for my drink, which came to $2.55. The woman working the register informed me that there's a $10 minimum for cards or a 50¢ convenience fee. This was slightly annoying, but not that big of a deal. Until the younger girl went to make my iced coffee. She came up to me holding a cup of hot coffee and asked if I wanted cream and sugar in my coffee. I informed her that I could do it myself after I got my drink (I do mine by taste, not by number of creamer and sugar pockets, which is all they had). She then took an empty clear cup to the back and came back out a couple minutes later with the cup full of ice. To make my iced coffee, she poured the hot coffee over the cup of ice. So I paid over $3 for a water down cup of room temp coffee. Not worth it. Their pastries smelled fantastic, but if you want coffee, you're much better off going to the Flying Pig on Oak Island. You'll get more bang for your buck, better drinks, and much...
Read moreDangerous! Beautiful pastries and ice cream, take to go or snack in the adjoining dining room (tho it's small.) Over a few visits, I got a mixed berry tart, Napoleon (cream & puff pastry), a muffin, and an iced sugar cookie - and that's about the order I liked them best, most to least. (And not that the cookie was bad- far from it - but I think I might have been happier with a macaroon or something with chocolate.) Tons of options, and if you're eating it there, they'll warm it up for you (which I should have done for the berry tart - it would have been even better!)
Very helpful staff, quick service, I'm glad I don't live nearby because I'd get something every week.
Worth noting - I parked at the waterfront and walked up the street with the bakery as my mid-day snack goal. That's close to a mile and the sidewalks run out before then, but the bakery just about marks the end of the commercial/touristy shopping spots. I crossed the street to an antique store and made my way back towards the water, but that was farther than most tourist were...
Read moreIt's worth taking the road less traveled! Today I decided to take a route I usually don't take and boy am I glad I did! I came across this amazing bakery! Burney's was amazing! While I was savoring every bite of my blonde brownie, the owner asked me if I'd like to try their glazed croissant, like that would even be a question! I said sure, and it was straight from heaven! I could have eaten two dozen of those with no problem, but I stuck with the sample and finished my brownie while drinking some great hot coffee! Not that I need a bakery to visit, but if I"m going to get something for my sweet tooth, there is only one place in Southport I'll be going from now on! Check this place out you'll be glad...
