We dined at Janes on Thursday 5/11/23. This was our third time at Janes. My wife and a couple visiting from IL. We ordered cocktails. My friends wife ordered a drink that the server said was great agreed by another server who delivered it to the table. It was absolutely FOUL. Tasted horrible, called the server over and let her know, she says " oh that shouldn't have been on the menu " Really? Let's move on. My wife and the couple each ordered the scallop entree...I ordered the 16/18 oz Ribeye @ $50, I love my beef. The entrees were set on the table. I was surprised and pleased to see 7 scallops on two of the plates and 8 on another. Before going further you should understand "Beef Gradings", most everyone knows Prime and Choice...there is a lesser cut known as Select and below that is Cutter and Canner which those last two mentioned are mostly used in cheap grinds of hamburger etc. I grew up in steakhouses in Chicago , my parents were in the biz. On to my Ribeye. I asked for slightly less than medium, it was more red than pink. As I cut into the steak it was incredibly tough to cut and tougher to chew. There was no marbling within this beef, my educated guess is it was a cheap cut of Select. If someone wants to argue then show me the dated invoice from the supplier. After 4 to 5 bites I folded as my friends and wife finished their scallops. Our server appeared to clear and I mentioned how inedible the steak was. The visual was clear I hardly touched this old dead cow. She says" you should have said something " ...My response " I am and I'd like to speak with the mgr or owner ". The table was cleared, no one appeared at the table to have a discussion. I went to the restroom, had a short conversation with the bartenders about the absolute poor quality of the beef and went to the table. My friend had paid the tab, yet no mgr or owner came to the table and the uneaten Ribeye was still on the bill. This is a very sad statement to Fizzie Janes. It is also a sad statement to the chef that allowed this pathetic cut of beef to leave the kitchen. The place has poor acoustics, it is loud... accounts for the one star for atmosphere. The two stars for service reflects no one from mgmt came to the table. The one star for food reflects the poor decision by the chef to place a horrible piece of beef in front of me or anyone else for that matter. The scallop entrees were very good. We also enjoyed " very good " Old Fashions made with Basil Hayden. The steak should never appeared on the bill., I would fault the server for that. This is enough of story to encourage the owners to buy better cuts of beef. Also I noticed other reviews regarding the poor quality beef. I wish Janes well and hope they upgrade their choice of beef. Everyone loses when cheap cuts of food is served. The customer for disappointing food, the server for lack of tip, the restaurant for loss of customers. Buy good grade and fresh food...if there is one thing I learned growing up in steakhouses...people will pay for "good food" !!! They don't return for cheap cuts and a poorly prepared meal. This isn't rocket science. I will probably not take my friends to Janes due to the lack of response as I sat at the table. Their loss, probably upwards of $2500 annually...
Read moreWe have came here many times and have always loved it but we were very disappointed this time. Everything started great until We all got our food and I received my salad at the same time. I did ask the girl who served the salad for an extra bowl so when our waiter came over to see how our food was he asked if I got two salads. What he should have been acknowledging is the fact that I got it with my dinner Instead of before. The dressing was supposed to be a vinaigrette but it was literally a fruit puree. Its super thick. ordered the seafood grits and they were super oily. I inserted a picture to show what it looked like. Every bite was thinned out grits with a ton of oil! My husband got the Mahi stuffed with crab and it was loaded with a ton of sauce and it was overpowering. It was like soup on top of the fish. When we were just about done I asked for another Drink And My waiter was going to throw away My untouched salad but I told him that I needed a box for it. I would have assumed he would have asked if I needed a box or if there was anything wrong with it at that point I would have said I didn't eat it because it came out with my food and I didn't want my entre to get cold. I get my drink and box pretty quickly but then we waited at least 15-20 minutes for him to come back to ask about check. Once he brings the check over he stands there and waits while I read it and look for my credit card. After I paid him, because I felt rushed with him standing over me, i didn't notice that they charged me $15 a piece for the paper planes even though their menu clearly states that they're $14 a piece . And lastly I do want to mention that not one glass or plate was ever cleared off the table the entire time that we sat there , As you can see in the picture right before we paid the bill. This was just overall not a good experience from...
Read moreI cannot say ENOUGH about Fizzy Jane's. I am from Asheville, and our local food is incredible and very hard to beat, but Fizzy Jane's seriously impressed me. Marc was our server (and bartender) and he was AMAZING. We were there for Saturday brunch and there were 2 other larger parties there.... And as a pet peeve... The other reviews complaining about the wait for food obviously cannot have much experience dining in restaurants that use fresh ingredients with every dish made to order, because for things to be done right, you have to wait. This isn't fast food. If you're eating somewhere where your food comes out in 10 minutes, it's because it was already made and warmed up or it was put in the microwave.... Anyway, I digress. We waited a perfect amount of time for our food and while we waited, the drinks were EPIC. I had the mandarin mimosa and my partner had a whiskey sour and I swear I almost had an orgasm. It was that good. We had the tuna and crispy rice as an appetizer, the smash burger, and the steak and eggs. I don't think I said a word the entire meal. I might have eaten with my eyes closed because I wanted to not miss a single flavor. Like I said, I'm hard to impress with food but we are coming back for dinner TONIGHT. Anyone who gives this place less than a 5 star review is clearly just trying to cause a kerfuffle. Keep doing what...
