Southport is a very special place. This is one pace that offers everything you could possibly want to do in a day. Not to mention for your entire life like myself. Shopping, crafts, jewelry store , restaurant's of all kinds. From very formal to waterfront burgers. Overlooking the mouth of the Famous "Cape Fear River" Fort Anderson and the Garrison is your backdrop from the pier. Which is what this reviews about. It's a great place to be able to go enjoy fishing without a boat. And it's located on the famous banks of Southport know for it's big flounder, trout,Red and Black drum. Sheepshead. Then all kinds of cool different structure fish. It's a concrete structured pier with wood rails. And the view is all the Rave man. It's the Cape Fear River Mouth. Notorious for it's quick squalls. Ruff waters and heavy currents. BlackBeard "Edward Teach frequented this area. As many other pirates. Caswell Beach is a look across the river. Which at the northern most point. Is Fort Caswell known in history for it's protection of the entrance. Also. Battery island which was used for shelling enemy ships is also straight across from the end of the pier. Bald Head Island which ferry's people over to the island is just at the left side of the Entrance to the Channel. Old Baldy Lighthouse is visible from the waterfront on clear days. Gotta get to Southport to enjoy all it has to offer as well as surrounding islands. Oak Island being our Beach is about 20 minutes up hwy 211 to...

I have a very special place in my heart for the water front of Southport. As a child, my friend lived in the apartments where the Martime museum is currently. (Used to be apartments) We RAN those streets! I know the place well. Sunday, we took my daughter for her Senior photo shoot in my old stomping grounds. The beat part is, short of more people, traffic, cars and some erosion, it is EXACTLY as it was in the 80's to mid 90's! I went to school at Southport Elementary and have lived in Long Beach, AKA Oak Island, the majority of my life. I love it! I hope that Southport recognizes the beautiful jewel it has, and never allows anyone or any policy to disturb the beauty and historical significance of our quaint little home. Ample seating, beautiful views, relaxed atmosphere. The waterfront park is a great place to end your stroll of downtown Southport. Have a seat in a swing, on a bench, or in the gazebo and enjoy the views of the Cape Fear River. You can watch as ships and ferries travel back and forth. You can see Bald Head island and Fort Caswell from this spot. A great place for photo ops and a relaxed environment to enjoy a coffee from Port City Java or an ice cream from Flavas or Spikes. This is where the band and street dance are stationed during the 4th of July Festival. If you're a movie or TV fan, you might even recognize this area from scenes in A Walk to Remember and other productions. Just do everyone a favor and don't feed the birds. I promise they can fend for...

Hate I didn't take more photos. Love how you can take the ferry from Southport to Fort Fisher, and head to Wilmington along with various beaches in that area. However, I highly recommend taking the time to enjoy Soutport as it's so adorable by the waterfront. There are plenty of swinging benches aligned with the port area, with the walkway, and across the street closer to the houses. There is an additional park nearby that's very close to a cemetery. Everything is mostly clean within the town and or city limits, and pray everyone whether they live there or visit continues to assist with this. Caswell Beach, Kure Beach, and Oak Island are very close by.

beautiful area if you haven't been it's a must go-to waterfront park. you can always walk out onto the pier, down on the beach, sit on the benches or swings and enjoy the view and enjoy the tranquility. or you can walk the opposite direction down the road towards the restaurants and see the authentic boats & docks on the way to another pier with a small seating area at the end overlooking beautiful rocks that my children got yelled at for climbing on, and I learned that there are cats that live in there. go further you can hit some good restaurants & a good ice cream place. not too bad of a walk with a nice breeze.
