edited This place was a complete let down. I put in a to-go order for the family…I ordered chicken and carne asada tacos, and they were flavorless. The carne asada was chewy, the chicken was tough and dry. Which is incredible since the tortillas were soggy and unmanageable. They fell apart immediately (and they only give you one instead of the usual two). They weren't heated, either. The execution of it all was terrible. We ordered rice and beans on the side and it was just put on the bottom of our tacos; lazy work. The rice was undercooked and bland. The beans were okay AT BEST. I spent over $100 for this meal and somehow, I feel like if I would have spent $50 on tacobell, I would have been much more satisfied.
The restaurant nice on the inside, it’s a vibe and it’s clean. The service is good, just not the food :(
For as much as I paid and what little effort was put into this is astonishing. I would suggest to whoever is putting together the to-go orders/cooks--put sauce, onions, and cilantro ON THE SIDE. If you're going to charge so much, get smaller corn tortillas and double up. Heat up the tortillas so they wont fall apart.
Hopefully, they were just having a bump in the road and that not all of their food is like this. I wish good things for this place, but I would not recommend this if people what...
Read moreWow. Seriously, just wow! First let me state that I went for lunch around 1pm. The food was amazing. Great cooks working the back of house. The salsa. Seriously. Mmmmm I was suddenly back in my abuela's(grandmother) kitchen waiting for my grandfather to get home from work. This was the flavor of the salsa. Soo good!
I can't stop raving about this place's daytime service. The food, I had a green chili burrito, a good safe test for a Mexican restaurant and I left both full and satisfied. The rice was the real test for me and they nailed it.
Our waitress was a gal by the name of Mailene and she was swamped when we went in but very personable. She made time for each guest and still stayed on top of her duties.
Spearfish finally has a Mexican restaurant that tastes Mexican not just "Mexican-ish". There is flavor and some spice to the food. There's got to be a balance to be good Mexican food and this place is the best that Spearfish has to offer. If you haven't tried it, you need to. If you've tried it and don't like it... Well, guads has the "Mexican adjacent" food you'll prefer. I said...
Read moreTonight was our first time at El Sombrero Spearfish. Wow, what a treat! The service was fabulous and the food was beyond delicious! Lucas was our server, and showed us so much care and attentiveness as he took care of the restaurant. Ryan is the proud owner and chef, and made sure that we were taken care of as he personally brought me my food and checked on us. My husband had the Hot Mama Burrito and I had the Super Burrito. The portion sizes were very large, but our food was so good, our plates were empty when we finished! We ordered a breakfast burrito to go, and thanks to Lucas we were able to special order it the way we wanted it. It would have been nice to have chorizo as a choice for the breakfast burrito, but I’m sure our to go order will be as delicious as our dinner turned out to be. This is a wonderful restaurant with very hard working people there making sure your experience...
