Fujisan — Restaurant in Spearfish

RESPONSE TO RESTAURANT REPLY: You did not address the key issue- you give phone orders (takeout) priority over customers sitting in your restaurant. You stated the reason our order of 2 rolls and 4 sushi was taking so long was that you had numerous phone orders that night. This is what is unacceptable. Further, my husband parked our car and walked in about 5 minutes after I was seated. It took 15 mins for our order to be entered and the waiter to come over, but we were sitting waiting that whole time. There were only two other tables with patrons at the time we were there- this was not a crowded Friday night as the Downton Friday Nights was going on. Sushi is an art, I agree, but it also involves no cooking...it should never take an hour to get a few sushi rolls out to diners, especially when the restaurant is nearly empty. If your staff cannot keep up with phone orders while patrons are at your restaurant, then consider not taking them so as to serve your customers who are trying to dine in your restaurant.

EDITED 7/13/18- We love Fujisan (we have had many good experiences prior to this one) but this establishment needs to ensure they have the ability to get food out to waiting customers in a reasonable timeframe. We tried to dine here this evening. We arrived at 830pm and were happy to see the place wasn't crowded. We placed our order approx 15 mins later. By 927pm we had no sushi at our table. We ordered a simple sushi platter that should have been quick to come out. The staff told us they had a lot of to go orders. These orders literally were going out before us- and were left sitting waiting to eat in the restaurant. We ended up walking out. This makes me very sad as I was so happy to have a great sushi place in Spearfish. Please hire more staff. Please prioritize customers in the restaurant as highly as to go orders. Please understand people don't come to a restaurant to wait an hour for their food; this isn't acceptable.

I want to share something with everyone about a local business I think the world of. I’ve been a long-time customer of Fuji San Japanese Restaurant here in Spearfish. More recently I’ve been a frequent customer. Why do I love Fuji so much you ask? Aside from the fact I’m addicted to sushi and they have amazing sushi and Andy knows my order as soon as I walk in or call. But it is also because every time I come here, Andy gives me a compliment. And it isn’t just me, I hear him dish them out to everyone. That’s pretty fantastic. Ever since my dad passed away this past March, Fuji has become my comfort food restaurant when I’m having a rough day and it’s because I know every time I go there, the service will be amazing, even if I have to wait. It’s always worth the wait. The first time I visited after my dad passed was in late April and the first thing Andy said to me was “I’m so sorry for your loss.” I have no idea how he knew, but that means more to me than I could ever express. Omg if you havent been here yet GO!! Opens every day by 11am.Drinks AND food are fresh made.The soy sauce which is delicious and like nothing I have ever tasted is not only preservative FREE and made in house but its also available for purchase ($4 small soy sauce & 8$ for large) !!! Jared had cold fresh juiced green apple drink($5.50)I had cold mango buble tea($4.60). We ordered lunch special of spicy tuna roll and spicy red snapper rolls (2 for $10) (spicy being wasabi on the side) which also came with choice of fresh salad with cold sliced cucumber tomato house made carrot ginger cold dressing or soup which is miso soup with REAL Dikons in it!!! Our entree which we shared was BBQ EEL (22$) which came served in the cutest dish and served on a bed of lettuce avocado, tamago, and jasmine white rice. OMG delicious fresh flavor !Staff was very pleasant and answered all our what is this , is it bottled or fresh and whats in that can I have more of questions .very pleased...
