EDIT 11/19/2023 If you even remotely enjoy eggs Benedict, you MUST try them here! Sweet heaven I don't always gush over food but I was BLOWN AWAY by these. I asked the waiter about the tomato on it, and he said it was an in store made salsa that they are working on maybe bottling and selling, as they get a lot of compliments on it. I would, hands down, be buying a bottle or 3 if they ever do sell it.
We had originally planned on a different place for breakfast, but it wasn't open yet. Turns out that was a blessing in disguise. Since we were on a schedule, we decided to try this place and I'm super glad the other place was closed! The Original Spearfish Breakfast House doesn't have a big, flashy sign or fancy entrance. It's just tucked into the strip of shops on the main drag with an unassuming line of white lettering on the awning. Although it was 9 am on a Saturday (which doesn't seem too early to me), there was plenty of parking on the street.
Stepping inside revealed an exceptionally cleanly designed cafe, brightly lit, and somehow homey feeling. We were able to be seated right away, which, had we arrived 30 minutes later, might not have been possible. By 9:30, this place was hopping!
Our daughter ordered a hibiscus lemonade (a temporary special) which I had to try since I'm a sucker for flower infused drinks. It was very tasty! Coffee was good, requiring no additions for me, which is impressive because I normally find the coffee made anywhere but by myself to be overly strong. We did have a little bit of a wait to get our food, maybe 30 minutes, but it was well worth it. Scrambled eggs are one of those things that can be hit and miss at any restaurant, but these were possibly in my top three as far as perfectly done scrambled eggs.
Judging by other pictures on Google, the menu has changed slightly within the past 2 months, as I didn't see anything called SOS on our menu. I ordered the Crazy Rum French Toast, mostly for no other reason than because there wasn't a picture of it yet. In truth, I was having a very hard time deciding what I wanted to order because everything sounded very tempting. It came with two slices of French toast, two slices of bacon or sausage (I got bacon), and two eggs. Definitely enough to fill me up. My husband got the corned beef hash, and my daughter got the Simple Start. I only included a picture of mine since there are already pictures of the ones my family got, and they looked identical to the pictures you see posted.
Despite a very busy morning, service was friendly, coffee was refilled frequently, and prices were worth the quality and amount of food recieved. I did order a lemon filled blueberry muffin to go, which I ate later in the day and would recommend it, if you have room.
Overall, I think we found our new favorite place for breakfast. Hopefully at some point we'll be able to stop in and try other dishes as the Bacon Avocado Eggs Benny was also vying for my attention. 5 stars from me and I will be recommending this place to others,...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped here on our way home, and wow—what an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we felt like we had discovered something truly special. The warm, welcoming atmosphere made us feel like we were dining with family rather than at a restaurant. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, making sure every detail of our meal was just right. Their genuine hospitality added to the magic of the experience.
And the food? Absolutely phenomenal. I’m highly sensitive to processed food, yet I felt amazing after eating here—light, satisfied, and nourished. I had the Benedict with avocado, and it was hands down the best I’ve ever had. The perfectly poached eggs, rich hollandaise, and creamy avocado all came together beautifully. They even went out of their way to accommodate my request for a biscuit instead of an English muffin—such a thoughtful touch, and it was absolutely divine!
My husband ordered the chorizo skillet, and he couldn’t stop raving about it. The flavors were bold and vibrant, with just the right amount of spice, and every bite was packed with fresh, delicious ingredients.
If you’re looking for a breakfast that’s not only mouthwatering but also made with love and care, this is the place. The combination of incredible food, locally sourced ingredients, and the kind of service that makes you feel at home makes this a must-visit spot. We’re already looking forward to...
Read moreWe came here with a party of 10 after church. We called ahead and they accommodated. While were were ordering I warned them we are gluten free (just me, my hubs and kids). They had GF bread on their menu. After ordering she came back and said sorry, their out of Gf bread. Oh and out of avocado. So we ordered something else. She said they have GF buns. But then she went in the back and said they were out of those too. Oh and out of home fries. She must have went back 5 times to ask what was left. Although she was VERY friendly and was giving us attentive service up to that point, i felt like a server should know in advance what they’re out of before we order, and warn us. Also I said upfront that we’re gluten free so it would have been great for her to check on what she has that’s GF in one visit to the back instead of several. Also being out of home fries and avocados was disappointing for almost our entire party. I want to emphasize the friendliness of our servers! They were so sweet. Prices were very high for pretty standard breakfast food and standard portion sizes. Being out of home fries was the last straw and we decided to leave and go elsewhere. We didn’t get to try the actual food. :( I wanted to like...
