When I went to the Jits Thai Bistro, the smell was spine-tingling, astonishing! I had to order a to-go lunch. I had the Rotisserie Chicken Fried Rice and the Yellow Curry Chicken w/potatoes and rice and an egg roll. Let me tell you something folks, THAT FRIED RICE IS POSSIBLY THE BEST FRIED RICE TO EVER COME IN CONTACT WITH MY TASTE-BUDS! I could have ate that alone and went away a satisfied customer! The curry was very good, it was a stew like consistency chock full of big chunks of chicken and potatoes. It had a surprisingly pleasant citrus flavor to it. I think it was lime. (I'm no Gordon Ramsey here, I'd fail that blindfold pallet challenge on Hell's Kitchen without a doubt!) The egg roll had a thin crispy exterior like a spring roll. It was light and flaky and chock full of flavorful goodness. What made it better was the little cup of sweet and sour sauce that was just enough to pour over the entire length and provide an additional layer of sweet, savory delight!
So of course I had to go again.
The next day I took my step-son. I had the fried rice and egg roll again! This time I changed it up and tried the Spicy Chicken and Basil. Let me tell you something folks, for those of us in the Spencer area who go to restaurants here in town looking for something spicy, you know as well as I do that we are often left wanting... That has changed. Jits Thai Bistro's Spicy Chicken and Basil will LIGHT YOU UP! When I was half way thru this dish, my nose was running and my mouth was on fire! I LOVED IT! I hope it doesn't change! The chicken was moist, the basil flavor added just a hint of anise and licorice flavor and the peppers were just an added bonus to this already delectable dish!
This is a must go to anyone looking for "Something Different" in Spencer. It's about time we had some change in our little town and this place is a much needed breath of fresh air. But you have to get up early to enjoy this treat, as of now (10/08/2015) it's only open Monday - Friday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. I hear rumors from the employees though that it's going to open for dinner hours also in a few weeks. I certainly hope so, I got a glimpse of the dinner menu and I would be lying if I said I was not interested in what I saw!
In closing, this is a wonderful place painted in colors that I over heard one of the owners say to a diner, "It's painted those colors to make you hungry." Well sir, you're almost right, it was the smell that came from your front door that made me hungry. Here's to a long successful stay in...
Read moreWe did a quick google search while driving through Spencer on the way home and found this great restaurant. We arrived a half hour before closing time on a Saturday and still received wonderful service. I had the Drunken Man’s fried rice with beef. The vegetable mix and sauce flavoring was phenomenal. The spice/heat level was perfect. This may actually be the first Asian style restaurant that describes the spice levels of their food accurately instead of a weak spice level that most other restaurants offer.
My wife had the shrimp pad Thai. She described as deliciously sweet and spicy. Her only qualm was with the shrimp tails still being on. I think with the large size of shrimp, it is simply a preference though.
We also ordered the ‘Thai Elephant Ear’ with coconut ice cream. I am not sure if the elephant ear name really describes the pastry by the normal American definition of one. The fried pastry was very delicate and had a sweet syrup on top. This mixed with the coconut ice cream was a nice finish to a great meal.
Other posters have mentioned the prices being somewhat high for the town, but I think the quality of food that they offer, more than makes up for what small difference it may be.
Give it a try, you...
Read moreWe have been here once before and the food is good but we went yesterday at 8:30 and we realized they do close at 9 but we figured we had time to order and eat and be done by the time they closed. We walked in the door at 8:30 and we were turned away by the woman saying sorry we close at nine. It was 8:30. Any restaurant that I have ever been to it doesn't matter if you walk in 5 minutes before they close they will serve you regardless. So we went to the local Mexican restaurant just down the street. They to close at 9 and we got there at 8:45. We walked in they seated us and served us all with happy smiles and great service. Never once did they say sorry we close at 9 we cant serve you. So because of this experience at Jit's Thai I dont know that we will go back. Poor treatment of customers regardless of what time they walk in is not good work ethic. I have worked at a restaurant and had people walk in while we were getting ready to close and we served them. Take...
