Me and my significant other are avid sushi eaters around Spokane. Otori Sushi are the new kids on the block, so it was only a matter of time for us to come enjoy it. We ate 3 rolls, the California, the Red Dragon, and named for the restaurant, Otori roll. I haven't ever previously had a California roll served hot, but I was pleasantly surprised by it's amazing texture that is reminiscent of a warm biscuit. Much like the California, the Red Dragon Roll was prepared differently than I had ever had before. It was like meeting an old friend with new clothes, it has a new spin on it. Finally, standing out to me, the Otori roll. This was a wonderful roll that bites back at you. It has a bold spicy salmon, with a tangy red onion dressing the top of the roll. To say simply, this took me by surprise, as it was a true wolf in sheep's clothing. It's simple appearance masks the complex and loud flavors it's ingredients present. This is true as well for the restaurants appearance. The menu is simple as the walls are, plain and to the point. I am sure that such flavorful and interesting food will not hide for long behind such a simple abode. This place screams for an exciting theme and I can't wait to see what it will become.

Stopped by on a whim. We got the teriyaki chicken and the unagi don (special of the day). Both dishes came with miso soup. The chicken had a nice char to it, and wasn’t drenched in sauce. I like that they went light on the sauce and offered to bring more if you prefer a saucy teriyaki (which I don’t). I think the salad had some sort of ginger dressing. I enjoyed it. Had a bite of the unagi and it was delicious. The miso was tasty too. We just had water. It was good: not infused with fruits or melons, not soapy. Just good iced water. (I’m not generally a fan of water so I like to comment on it.) Prices seemed a little bit high, but portions were generous and we had leftovers. The restaurant was clean, food came out quick, and the server was attentive.

Phenomenal service, phenomenal food. You really get your bang for your buck. My favorite appetizer was the Black Rose, the sauce and texture were so yummy, perfectly savory and crispy. Our server has the sweetest, kindest soul. My boyfriend's entree had miso included, mine didn't, so she gave me miso soup on the house. She also gave us two rolls extra on the house. My boyfriend's only complaint was the selection isn't as big as most other sushi places. Overall loved the experience, the food just kept coming, and we left with our bellies full and happy hearts.

Sushi is one of my favorite foods. So for a year and a half I've been trying different sushi restaurants in Spokane. I was disappointed many times and was about to give up on my sushi quest... then I tried Otori. It is simply delicious!!! Fresh fish, clean flavors and amazing sauces that go perfectly with every different type of roll. And on top of all that the service is great. Yes, I went during COVID time, so they only have take-out, but I had never seen any other restaurant take such good care of their take-out orders. The person at the front meticulously showed me every single plate of food as she packed my order. She explain every sauce and warned me about the spicy ones (best one, by the way), asked how many sets of chopsticks I needed and threw in a couple of extra soups because they were crowded and my order took a little longer than she told me. Simply superb food and service that made me feel like we were in "normal" times again. I'll be coming...
