Date night, gone bad. Start off with table arrangement there was four of us sat right in the middle of the restaurant and 10 feet maybe to the door that was opening and shutting several times making it very cold. Waitress was nice, but maybe in the wrong industry, she’s had little comprehension skills got just about everything wrong. Yes I know the bartender, cooks all part of the team so I don’t want her to take all the blame! Asked for a dirty martini with a little extra dirt she even asked before I could if I wanted blue cheese stuffed olives I said yes I’d love that. It came out no dirt just chilled vodka and plain old green olives! My buddy ordered the exact same and got what I wanted so I switched out his blue cheese olive for my bland ones when he was looking, and what I ordered two same order the same way two different martini! Consistency is key especially at the same table in my opinion. Then the wait and wait and wait to place order they weren’t that busy, finally ordered the a shrimp cocktail came out that no one ordered! So told her this is at the wrong table to come to find out she messed up my buddy had ordered shrimp skewers with his steak I will get into that in a minute. She had put it in as a cocktail! We all ordered salad before dinner that are overpriced and flavorless caesar one of the worst tasteless Caesar I’ve ever had! Meal time my buddy and order the exact same steak medium rare he just add shrimp three very small overcooked overpriced skewers to his that were burnt, and dry his steak came out DONE we both ordered medium rare, sorry didn’t get a picture of his steak, mine was cooked as I ordered it so that was a plus, but very salty so salty. I tried to cute the crust off and eat just the middle but the salt was to overwhelming so I didn’t eat it. Mind you I love dirty martini so yes I can handle salt but this was entirely over salted. My husband had the crab stuffed salmon and they had left the skin on the salmon without crisping the skin, then folded it I’m not sure how but like a omelette so the skin as slimy and impossible to eat around, I never found any crab. I had higher hopes we loved this spot when it was Austin live fire so it had a special meaning to us, but over priced for quality! I know rent is high downtown and I get food prices have gone up, it’s hard times for all industries. We don’t mind paying the price if it’s worth it. We don’t recommend...
Read moreI don't typically leave bad reviews, but we were extremely underwhelmed by Wileys. I have heard of many raving reviews of this place, so I will chock up our experience to just an off night, but here it goes.
First off, the staff was professional, kind, and welcoming. Absolutely no complaints there. Cocktails were delicious and fairly priced. The first red flag for me started with the shrimp cocktail. Four shrimp and some fresh greens!? Cocktail sauce in a hollowed piece of cucumber? $12. I am thinking we might be leaving this place hungry. My group of four shared this appetizer which amounted to one shrimp per person. Luckily, we ordered the brie which was good, but yet again the 2X2 inch square was split four ways which amounted to one bite a piece. $14.
We end up getting salads and brussel sprouts. Nothing out of this world. $34.
Two orders of sirloin, one salmon and crab, one scallop special. $142. Steak was cooked adequately. Salmon was way overcooked and scallops looked poached/steamed? Not sure there. The mashed potatoes seemed a little old and reheated on a flatcook surface. Like made way earlier and then just grilled in some oil/butter to reheat. How do you mess up potatoes? Very average.
So, after spending $300 after drinks/food on dinner for four, I am looking around and wondering why are they so proud of the food here. The walls have missing paint in areas, the tables and chairs are not the most comfortable. I don't get it. Labor is expensive and the costs of running a business don't make it easy in today's economy. But if I am spending my hard earned money, then it is going elsewhere. Head to the Barrel or Churchills for this price range. You won't...
Read moreWiley’s has generously catered our corporate lunches for years, but I only recently had the chance to dine there myself. I’ve never heard anything but positive feedback about Wiley’s, but it was even better than I imagined!
We arrived on a bustling Saturday night and were greeted immediately by a friendly staff member, who seated us right away. We started with a delicious cocktail, followed by the crab puff. Oh. My. Glory. Have you ever eaten something so good that you almost cried? We immediately agreed to return before even receiving our entrees.
My husband got a steak, and I ordered a special, which was gnocchi with salmon. The steak was perfect and very flavorful (and we tend to be divas about steak). The gnocchi and salmon were creamy, savory, and absolutely delicious.
There’s more to Wiley’s than just amazing food. This place was booming, but the service never missed a beat. The kind owner checked on us not once, but three times. We felt so cared for, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. There is something special about this place. We even started chatting with the guests next to us, a lovely mother and daughter duo (which, if you ever see this, please know how special you made our evening, too!), which to me says a lot about the comfortable “vibe” of the restaurant. It wasn’t just dinner; it felt like an experience.
We cannot wait to come back! But beware, we're going to eat ALL of...
