It's rare for me to go to a grand opening, much less to do it by accident. I took my parents there for lunch and came back for dinner with my wife. The food is that good. Both trips though were indicative of the times I guess. Orders were messed up and service subpar. LUNCH: My folks ordered the Talapia basket. We were informed that it could take up to 30 minutes for those baskets to be ready. We waited, listening to numbers being called, this was lunch to go, and after 20 minutes, my folks' number got passed over. Soon, people who got there after us were getting their food. After a few inquiries, they finally delivered on the two baskets. After dropping the parents off back home, the food that they were given wasn't what they had ordered. In addition to the fish and chips, they had shrimp included under their fries. Now that sounds like a possible come up until you know that my folks eat Cosher. DINNER: My wife and I decided to try dining in for dinner. We expected longer waits, not subpar service. It seemed that some servers were hired that day, or Yummy Crab runs differently then a traditional restaurant. For starters, we had to ask for tableware. Water does not come with the meal but that's okay, it seems like a fast food/sit down fusion place. We had to ask our server to take our order, and our server left us with the menus after we ordered. I finally caught her attention and gave her the menus. She was very nice when she would engage with us, it just seemed that she was very under trained. I also had to open the safety seal on the ketchup, it was brand new. Oh, side note, they do not serve malt vinegar at all. My fish and chips were very sad without them. I will say though that their sauces are on point! They have THE BEST cocktail sauce I've ever had. It's got a kick, you've been warned. Their tartar sauce was a fusion of flavors that I'm not familiar with and enjoyed it a lot...especially on the fries. So yeah, the food. I would place their food easily on par with Anthony's, except for not having malt vinegar or cod. The Talapia was exceptional. The breading made that fish what it was. Someone knows their spices. My wife got the cat fish which she thoroughly enjoyed as well. The butterfly shrimp appetizer and cocktail sauce, I'll come back just for that! My toddler's chicken tenders were a bit overcooked, but he loved his fries. Was the meal worth it? Yes. The dinner portions, we got basically 4 big filets each and a bunch of fries, and couldn't finish them. Will we come back? Probably for take-out. When we dine in, we like to tip big, but there's an expectation of a certain level of service that isn't much, but much more than...
Read moreThey're still working on the service. The first time we went about a month ago, it wasn't the greatest service but the food was good. This weekend it was pretty good all around and they seemed to have gotten more experienced waitstaff... at times it seemed like they may have been overstaffed because people seemed to be standing around chatting or twiddling. My biggest irritation is that most restaurants at this price point give you bread or soup or something as part of your meal while you're waiting. They don't do that. They have a decent appetizer selection, but don't expect bread or chips or anything while you're waiting for your order. You can tell that the owner/manager is still getting their footing in the restaurant industry and maybe didn't hire staff that are experienced in the flow and needs of a restaurant and serving the patrons of said restaurant. You can also tell that they might need to go to other similar establishments and make note of what those places are doing that make the customer experience stellar. Unfortunately, if they don't do those things and another restaurant with a similar menu comes to Spokane, who does have a good hold on the customer experience, I can see that other restaurant putting a strain on their patronage. I think it's worth it if you love seafood. If you are only partial to it, then I would say don't waste your money because the experience outside of eating the boils is mediocre at best. I give them a 4 star rating because they do seem to be making improvements and the food has been good each time. I think if they can get the customer experience up to par, they would get 5 star reviews easy... Especially for the price point. You can easily spend $100 for 2 people to eat dinner. At that price point, the customer experience should be seamless, consistent, warm, welcoming, and high priority from the moment they step through the doors, until the moment they step out. We have been both during lunch time and dinner time... I would recommend going at lunch time if you want to try it with budget in mind- it's not a huge difference in expense, but it does save a bit to order from their lunch menu and...
Read moreVery excited to have this here in Spokane. We are big on crawfish boils and have been waiting a long time to get a local spot like this. The food was really good, probably one of the better flavors I’ve had. It was a perfect balance with the buttery garlic flavor and spice. We got a medium to play it safe but it definitely was not spicy enough. Go up to a 3 or 4 if you really want the spice to kick a bit. It was also nice to have a kid friendly menu for our littles with things they actually eat. They got chicken and fries and the fries were really good. There are no complaints as far as the food. The dining experience itself was a bit odd. When we arrived, we exited our car into a cloud of smoke from a worker who actually ended up being our waiter, (he was at our table within a minute of being seated, hardly enough time to properly wash up from coming back in) and when we left, there was a worker literally standing at the trunk of my car smoking. Smoke break? Sure. But I literally had to get my kids buckled in their car seats smelling like someone had just been smoking in my car. Music was really loud although I did enjoy the music (my genre), but I half felt like I was in a night club because I’m pretty sure half of the worker girls were dancing and singing for the better portion of our stay. When we were halfway through eating, hands still covered in sauce, crab legs still in hand, mid conversation, our waiter asked if we were ready for our bill. The final oddity was having our waiter hover beside us waiting for the receipt to be signed and given back after running our card. I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone hover and wait for a signature and tip besides getting take out and paying at the front counter. Overall, because this is our only option, we’ll probably be back. Hopefully after more time to get things settled it won’t be such an awkward experience dining in. The food is worth it, the prices are to be expected, but the staff needs to work out...
