Extremely disappointing, omg, horrible. They served me a staled food, how can you be so comfortable selling a staled food because of how much, against losing a customer. Just horrible, horrible service!!!, I am just speechless. Everything was just wrong. I really regret going there. No proper table service etiquette. These people need to go for a restaurant service training, and especially on how to handle and present a cutlery. How can you give me a knife by holding it from the cutting edge, robbing all over it. Come on.
Reply: If what you served me is freshly made as you said, then that's a huge problem for this business. After tasting the staled jollof rice, I couldn't eat it, I just left it. Thank God for the unsweet plantain and fried beef.
You did not even offer me a knife, and I ordered for jollof rice, fried beef, and Co. I wondered if I'm supposed to use my hands to eat the beef as a nigerian restaurant, Then I requested a cutlery from the guy that was loading the fridge, he brought out the knife, holding it from the blade without the kleenex as you mention. I requested a change and took him 5 mins to be out of the kitchen. This same guy, I asked him for the bottle water I already paid for, and his reply was, "next time you need water, get it by yourself" I was shocked , as a first timer, I wasn't aware I should grab the water by myself and that wasn't communicated when I paid for it by the counter.
Even the lady that attended to me, I don't know what to think of her, I don't know if is because she was pregnant, no greeting, no hello, just that's the menu , no smile. It was just weird, I could have declined and left at this point. It was just a nightmare.
They did not even come out to ask if the food was ok until I left. ( Of course, no, you know the horrible food you had served me. You can't be confident to ask that question). I did not see anyone. Who does that in a restaurant. Of course, this is a Nigeria restaurant, no regard at all, bringing the same attitude of Nig to this place. I can keep going on my horrible experience here. Just a...
Read moreSo just left this place and was really looking forward to trying it after hearing such good things about the food. I can’t judge the food so this is for the service and for that it’s less than one star even. First off we walk in and we’re handed some menus and told to sit down. After waiting 20min after watching every walk-in behind us get taken care of I decided to walk up to the counter and ask how does the service go. I was finally asked if I was ordering to go or dining in. I told the lady I was dining in and was told she’d be right with me. I sat again and she did come out and take our orders and the young lady was very nice I do give that to her plus she apologized for our wait so we pushed it off. We ordered and waited on our food. About 30 min later another couple came in and their table was cleaned and they were seated right away plus their orders were taken right then at that moment while we’re still waiting. Not even 5 min later their food was brought out to them. Me and my mom start looking at each other like “WTH”? Another family came in and were seated right away, table cleaned and order taken. At that point we were seeing that they’re catering more to the West African culture because both families were of that culture and waited on FIRST while we were just still sitting there twirling our thumbs waiting. After that we then just decided to go and got up.Now don’t get me wrong because I’m a black woman but I know when people are focusing more on “Family”. After standing up the owner noticed and THEN asked if we had our drinks yet. We were done then and were just ready to go. It’s very misfortunate because this place has potential but the service is horrible. And you might not even be noticed until you decide to...
Read moreI know what you're thinking... West African Food? Hunan Cafe? Isn't Hunan a province of China? Shouldn't this be Chinese food? You're right! I actually ate here before it became West African cuisine (new owners, I believe). It was a nice traditional Chinese restaurant but competition's tough. The new food is just as delicious though!
This is my first time trying African cuisine and I have to say, the food was intimidating but the lady in front was very nice and helped guide me on what to order.
As mentioned by another person, waiting time is around 30 minutes. Not quick but the food's home-made and fresh! Keep that in mind if you're in a hurry!
Now, time for you to learn from my mistakes. Portions fill you up! Unless you're sharing, stick with one dish, I ordered too much. I tried the Fufu with Egusi Soup and Yolofo Rice.
Traditionally, Fufu is eaten by hand. Tear and dip. Ladies, if you got pretty nails, ask for utensils. Gentlemen, activate caveman mode. They give you a bowl of water for you to wash your hands in. The fufu and soup was very delicious! Savory and spicy.
I couldn't finish the rice but I got the mackerel and it was so crispy and soft when I got it! Very tasty!
A very unique experience, thank you for letting me taste the culture of Africa. It was very delicious and fun. Come try if you're feeling...
