Update to my previous 5-star review: Today I had one of the most horrible service experiences of my life. When we arrived, we were asked ādine in or take out?ā and when I said ādine inā we were told to pick any table that had menus on it. We did, and took the booth on the far left, just past a Christmas tree that was set up for the holidays. After we ordered our food and took off our masks, I noticed a heavy, artificial scent that was overpowering. I looked around for an air āfreshenerā of some kind but found nothing. I walked across to the other side of the room (where there were also booths with menus) and the smell was much less severe there. We moved our glasses of water over to the new booth and sat down. Our waitress came back and asked if there was something wrong with our first table. I explained that there was a strong smell, like maybe some sort of air freshener being dispensed that it was intolerable so we moved. She looked visibly annoyed and shot back snottily that they have no such air fresheners or anything there (although she never went over to the old table to see if she could smell it), and looked under our new table with obvious displeasure on her face. I asked, āis it OK, that we moved?ā and she said, āitās just that I just cleaned under thereā in a very annoyed sort of way. I said, āIām sorryā with sincerity. She said, āitās OKā in a way that made it obvious that it was NOT ok with her. Then she walked away with me still asking (to her back), āare you sure? Because it doesnāt SEEM OK with you.ā
The food was deposited with MAJOR attitude. She then walked across to the table we had been sitting at previously and YELLED across the restaurant to another waitress, ā_, can you please come clean table #xx? It needs to be cleaned againā in a very put-out sort of way. Recognizing the problem here was that we had created one moment of āextraā work, I offered to solve the problem. āIāll clean it, I donāt mind. I just couldnāt sit there anymore but Iām happy to clean itā I said. Our waitress then went on to say that it was not just the old table that had to be cleaned, but that she had just swept under our new table and she only gets a certain amount of time allocated for that and now she would have to make time to do it again. I offered again, āwell, get me the broom and Iāll clean it for you. You see, I donāt mind doing a little bit of work, itās fine with me.ā She stormed off, yelling about us to anyone in the kitchen who would listen, and I could hear her saying things like, āI donāt care, Iāll take it off myā¦(something unintelligible)ā. Next, she stormed over to our table, slammed down two to-go containers, and said, āyour lunch is on me today. You donāt have to worry about your billā and seemed to expect us to pack up our food on the spot and go. I said and did nothing and she stormed away.
We finished our lunch at the table, being entertained a little by the other young employees horsing around in the kitchen (someone giving piggy-back rides), packed our leftovers in the provided to-go containers, left a $20 bill on the table for what I calculated to be an $18.28 check and left. As we were walking out, someone shouted āhappy holidays!ā after us (in a way that might have been sarcastic), but I cannot be sure which of the young female voices it was.
We had decided to go to the Dairy Cottage today to celebrate my kidās acceptance at his dream college. When we were driving there, I told a story of how I remember going there when I was pregnant and Christmas shopping, 18 years ago probably to the day! Even then I had been a long-time customer and watched this place evolve through the years. I have watched menu changes, renovations, holidays, technology, and many other things change while this place remained a family favorite. I have lots of positive memories, all overshadowed by todayās experience.
We wonāt be back. My 30+ years of dining here ended today. Time to find a new...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI LOVE THIS PLACE!! But⦠the reason why Iām giving one star trust me Iād give 0 if I could. The older lady working last night her hair was in a bun and green shirt she was rushing us the entire time and we did not even come like late we were there like around 7. The whole time she was being rude and asking if we were done if we needed anything else in a tone that was rushing. My father in law was still going through the menu and she is rushing him with the selection available. Okay great, you need to take other peopleās orders there were multiple employees to help with orders. I thought she had she wasnāt working here anymore. we come here often and the last time I saw her was about a year ago and she had the audacity to say that I did not need to eat the cheese fries. She should not be taking orders Iāve been coming to this place for almost three years now and every time she had taken my order I donāt like it I leave the place very unhappy and swear never to come back again but we do and itās good expensive now but such terrible service from that lady I wish I had gotten her name so you guys knew who Iām talking about. The other ladies they can be as busy as they are and they always take the time to be nice to us and we tip good, thatās the service Iām going to tip good for. Not that lady. If I see her again she is not getting a good tip because she is always the same. Iām just so angry and annoyed because I love the place just annoyed with the lady and her...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI heard a local recommend it so I had to try. This just isnāt my type of place, but if youāre looking for a local all American kind of spot, this is for you. However if you eat clean, healthy or gluten free, I definitely donāt recommend. Itās quaint because of its Ma n Pop vibes, family diner vibes, even family camp vibes and the people are very Delco/Springfield. All the food is processed and so is the ice cream (itās Jack and Jill). I got the buffalo chicken cheese steak and coffee ice cream and it was good but nothing special. For what it was I can see some people appreciating the quality of the bread. Oddly after my meal my fingers smelled like mold the whole day and I couldnāt get it off. I also got a head ache right after eating and my heart was racing so I had to lay down for 2 hours. This is why I donāt eat processed food (msg, preserved meats, seed oils and high fructose corn syrups). The only* option that was even green on the menu that I could find was a salad but no home made dressing. So adjust your expectations. To each their own, a lot of locals like it. I should try their pizza in a pinch. Again, if you eat clean, I wouldnāt recommend. But if you are a tourist and want to witness the Delco culture -...
