Food and beer forged in the depths of deliciousness.
A mighty need for food had Emily and I end up at Anvil & Forge, based on the photos she saw online. I trusted her judgment and we headed out from Buzz Bomb Brewing and walked about 5 minutes over to Anvil & Forge. This place is a bit different in that while it seems like it would be a bit of a sit down restaurant upon entering, you actually place your order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Once Emily and I figured out what we wanted, we took a seat outside. For food, she ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork and I got the Slim Thickens. As for beer, Em got the ‘Violet, Your Turning Violet’ and I got the Hefedoodle.
It was a beautiful day out and sitting outside was the perfect choice. We slowed worked on our beers while we waited for our food. It took about 25 minutes to come out and once it did, WOW. I know I ordered the Slim Thickens but they really leaned in to the THICK side of the name. This sandwich was about 6 inches thick and was going to require me to unhinge my jaw. Emily’s BBQ sandwich was damn near the same. I dipped into my fries to mentally prepare myself for the challenge I was about to embark and that was when I encountered my one and only disappointment with Anvil & Forge. While I had a million fries in front of me, they were room temperature at best. Non-hot french fries are always a disappointment to have, even if they are great tasting.
Turning to my sandwich, I was able to mash it down to a somewhat manageable endeavor and started eating it and that’s when I forgot all about the fries. This sandwich was exquisite. Everything tasted high quality, each ingredient meshed well with the others and the whole thing was incredible. This is, without a doubt, the best sandwich I’ve had all year… maybe in a few years. It really blew me out of the water on how good it was. I sampled Emily’s BBQ and was taken back by how good Blackberry BBQ can taste. Emily was equally in love with her sandwich and took half home to finish another time.
Speaking of good things, I much preferred the ‘Hefedoodle’ to the ”Nanner, Nanner, Nanner’. Emily was enamored with her ‘Violet, Your Turning Violet’ that she went back for a second. I wanted another but since I was driving, I needed to respect that. Gosh, just typing up this blog, seeing the pictures and remembering the taste has me considering another trip to Springfield in the very near future.
If you find yourself in Springfield and want to experience some fine drinking and some even finer dining, Anvil & Forge does not disappoint (except for those...
Read moreStaff was rude and unprofessional. Came in with son and grandson for lunch and to enjoy a few beers. We placed our order for food at bar, no waiters. Horseshoe, fish and fried chicken sandwich. We waited, then waited then waited some more. Asked many times about food order. Response each time was should be right up. Family came in 15 minutes after us put in order for horseshoe and received 15 minutes before our order finally arrived. Staff was short, curt, rude and unapologetic. The food order took over a hour to receive. This was unacceptable did give a tip shouldn't have but did. When cashing out told checkout was dissatisfied and shouldn't give tip. His only response was it was busy. They weren't that busy 1/4 capacity maybe 20 people and most just having beer. Beer was good, food alright not great by any means and staff were terrible. The final kicker got home looked over credit card charges and found out was double charged. My advice go for the beer forget the...

Zach, who doesn't seem to understand what full ownership means, or manners, decided to tear my $20 bill I half even though it was a tip for the people working that night. I left another $20 bill and thoroughly expressed my feelings on this matter. Didn't really do anything to provoke this behavior in the first place. Enjoyed eating a 5# salad and some sub par micro brew in a large stein. My family had a hand in creating this stein and enjoyed the glass more than the beer...April was a fantastic bartender. For someone so small, can't believe her wrist can hold such a large heavy mug... If you're going to use a flattop you need a fan for proper ventilation. Can't express enough how greasy everything and everyone must be when they go home. Pizza crust is usually burnt every time too. Had 3 steins and still was in a great mood no thanks to the...
