I've been to conveyor belt sushi restaurants elsewhere before and so was very excited to see one come to Springfield. Izumi definitely did not disappoint. Our main concern going was that we would have to take our 2&5 year old and we weren't sure how they'd handle it or if there would be anything for them to eat. However, it turned out pretty good! The atmosphere was great for the kids. They loved the decor, lots of cute animals on the tapestries and art work, plus the food on the conveyor belt and the robot on top, with it's fun animated characters kept them very entertained and excited. The other benefit is there was no real waiting for food, unless you ordered directly, and even then there were plenty of options available for them in the meanwhile, such as fruit, noodles, rice, steamed buns, jello, and dessert. So.much.dessert! Anyone with kids knows that the rare combination of being able to sit down at a restaurant and ALSO have food be instantly available to you is a match made in heaven. My only slight suggestion is that while it definitely wouldn't be authentic, the addition of 1 or 2 American kid friendly main entrees like chicken nuggets or hamburger would make me more likely to come again. My kids ate okay, but it was mostly in fruit and carbs and dessert, not much in the way of a main dish. My son did try the steak yakatori skewers and chicken karaage was also an option, but it still wasn't quite what they were hoping for, which is really okay. This is a Japanese restaurant and that's the cuisine should be expected, was definitely happy to have as many options as we did, the French fries were a life saver! The staff was friendly and helpful, my son fell in love with his chopsticks and was disappointed he'd have to leave them and the waitress gave him a pair of take-away chopsticks that he was delighted with. We were also happy with the price. Considering there were 4 of us and we weren't holding back or counting plates and the kids were going a little crazy, we still managed to feed all of us for $80, $100 after tip. Overall, a great experience! I'm sure we'll go again and hopefully as the kids get older they'll branch out into more...

EDIT: We did an online order for pick up on Monday, August 25th. I placed the order. And my oldest child went to pick it up as I was still working. When my child arrived, she asked for more yum yum sauce, not knowing that I had made a request for plenty of it. The 2 little girls working the desk were absolutely horrible to her and made her feel stupid for asking. She brings home the food and as we start unpacking. It quickly realize that g's the quality of food and quantity of food is not worth the price. My sushi rolls obviously are some new thing that they're doing because I had to assemble them apparently. All the ingredients were in the box. Seaweed was on the rice, but that was about it. Then I ordered 2 orders of spring rolls. One box had 2 and 1 box only had 1 spring roll. My daughter ordered a combination ball steak, chicken and shrimp. No steak one piece of shrimp and about 4 pieces of chicken. To which the shrimp was actually added as an extra cost. And my daughter asked for extra chicken at extra cost. My husband got a steak and shrimp ball. There was one piece of steak and 0 shrimp in it. Everything was Stone cold. I reported it and was told that I would get contacted by the restaurant within 24 hours. Yet to be contacted by the restaurant, so I'm updating my review and then we'll be calling them. Great concept. Unfortunately, the service and quality have dropped rapidly in the short time that they have been opened.

Food quality is already dropping. Dried out options. Raw looking meats. Hot items are stone cold. Half of the description tags were...

Izumi is the first place where I ever experienced a sushi rotary, and it was delightful, inviting, and memorable. The service was attentive and welcoming, and everywhere you looked felt exquisite and clean. I had a great time trying a little bit of everything on the menu with my friends. I’m a big fan of sushi and sashimi, and the flavors and options were enjoyable! They even offer entrées as simple as fried rice.

I recently moved to Springfield, and there aren’t many restaurants that provide a unique experience like this. So, as the first sushi rotary to open here, I am very pleased with Izumi. The dishes are prepared with care and quality. I was waiting for the surf and turf sushi with steak to be restocked on the rotary, and I didn’t have to wait long. They are quite good at restocking the food dishes here! It’s also easy to understand how you will be charged for the food; every dish is on a colored plate that corresponds to the assigned price. You should not put the plates back on the conveyor belt but instead let the waiter or waitress take them. There is also a tablet at each table with a menu that sends a little cart over to you with your order, which is very fun and adorable! I believe everyone would benefit from experiencing this place at least once. This is a Springfield must...

Izumi Rotating Sushi Bar is the first of its kind in Springfield, and honestly? It’s about time. I’ve been to quite a few rotating sushi spots, but I remember the days when I had to drive all the way to Chicago just to get this experience. One of my biggest pet peeves with conveyor belt sushi is hard rice—and as a sushi connoisseur, that’s a big no for me. But Izumi? Didn’t have that problem at all. The sushi was clearly fresh, soft, and flavorful in every bite. I wasn’t too hungry, so I didn’t try as many plates as I usually would, but I had to get the seaweed salad (because when am I not obsessed?). It was a 10/10 as always—the texture, the taste, the way it pairs with everything… I get it every time. The serving was on the smaller side, but I only spent $15, so honestly, no complaints. Let’s talk about the decor though—10 out of 10. Very traditional Japanese wooden interior. So aesthetic, so cute. I might have to pull back up just to do a little photo shoot. And if you saw me recording this… no you didn’t 😭💅 With spots like Izumi, the Asian Market on Wabash, and Feast Buffet, Springfield is really stepping up. This is part of my Springfield playlist—where should I go next? ⸻ Hashtags: #SpringfieldIL #IzumiSushi #RotatingSushi #SushiLovers #SushiTok #SpringfieldEats #IllinoisFoodie #ConveyorBeltSushi #SeaweedSaladAddict #MatchaAndSushi #SpringfieldHiddenGems #AsianMarketWabash #FeastBuffet #KobeJoApproved #FoodieFinds #SpringfieldFoodie #WhereToNext #Springfield
