It's hard to give it 3 stars for food because the fish was awesome! My husband and I got the 8 piece family meal with 2 sides collard greens and Mac and cheese. My brother and his girlfriend eventually got fish. She ordered fish and yams with Mac and cheese and my brother originally ordered a Philly cheese sandwich but they didn't have the steak so they asked him if it was alright to substitute for chicken and he said yes. They also told us they didn't have the dessert biscuits all after we had paid for everything, but they agreed to substitute the biscuits for cornbread. Then as we were waiting they said they didn't have chicken either and my brother had to change his order again. So he ended up with fish and fries. When we got our meals I noticed our family portion of sides was in the same size bowl as the single order my brothers gf ordered. I also had to ask for extra plates to divide the family meal with my husband. The fish was great, the collard greens were great and the cornbread was wonderful! But the Mac and cheese was just seasoned noodles with runny orange sauce. It did not look like any soulfood Mac and cheese I'd ever seen. I was ready for a Mac and cheese bake. My brother's gf said she liked the yams and had my same reaction to the Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was disappointing because I asked the cashier what were the best sides and Mac and cheese was one of the recommendations but the reviews on Google describe the Mac and cheese the same way I did. I would go back I would just make sure they had everything I ordered before I paid and would order yams and collard greens as my sides in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLoved, Loved the catfish. Some of the best Iāve eaten in awhile. So when we got there must have been a new person or new computer system. Took awhile to order one appetizer of fried pickles, one 3 pc fish meal with fries, an extra side of Mac & cheese, Mt Dew soda and a water. Then nothing was explained that the soda machine did not work so only thing available to drink was water or tea, Then fried pickles come out. (Waitress / cashier noticed at this point my husband did not have his soda he ordered and brought him a 16oz bottle.) Pickles were delicious. Then fish and macaroni and cheese (the extra side dish we ordered) which I would not call this Mac & cheese.. I would call it a spicy garlic sauce pasta dish, it was good in its own way, but definitely not Mac and cheese. Maybe add some grilled chicken with this topped with some sun dried or diced tomatoes and use a penne noodle instead?
A good Mac & cheese soul food might go heavy on some real cheddar cheese with some jalapeƱos diced inā¦
I Asked about our side of fries. We waited finished all our other food and They came when we were done and ready to leave. $32 +tip. They tried real hard but need some training and organizing. I definitely will try again, this is no way harping this business⦠just needs a little redirection and organizing. But do not get discouraged if you plan on visiting. This is a cozy mom and pop type shop with a good vibe that we love to support.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wanted to try this place because I was in the area and wanted to try something different. I walked into this place and was immediately turned off by how dirty this restaurant was.
I approached this black male working there and was immediately treated with racism and poor customer service.
This black, male employee immediately gave me this dirty look like What do you want?ā and rudely greeted me with āCan I help you?ā like as if I didnāt belong here. I asked him a question about a menu item I was wanting to try. The employee was rude and didnāt even look at me in the eye while I was talking to him. He probably assumed because of the color of my skin that I didnāt speak English well. I walked out and didnāt bother ordering anything.
This is a black family owned business in a majority White city. This place will not stay open long if they plan on only caring about customers of the same skin color as them. They need to have better emotional and intellectual intelligence here. No wonder why this place looked deserted from the outside. Springfield isnāt crime driven ST LOUIS.
I understand Springfield isnāt very diverse and I know there arenāt many Hispanics there but I felt very uncomfortable at this restaurant.
