Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Springfield

This is a warning to all who traverse this establishment! I have dined at steak n' shake restaurants for so many years now. And I often rave about how good the burgers are.

My experience going to this restaurant in the last 24 hours was a bit scary.

First off, the person taking my order got it wrong before i pulled away from the speaker box. So I then had to re-issue my order in hopes that they would not get it wrong. (By the way I ordered a plane double steak burger meal with only cheese. Its a pretty simple order.) The ordered was made accurate after the second time of placing the order. After waiting an exorbitant amount of time in the drive through, and paying $12 for this meal, I finally got my food.

I'll give the credit to them that the root beer soda and the french fries were pretty good. But that's where anything positive to be said ends.

The cup of cheese sauce that I ordered was literally congealed and watery. It was absolutely disgusting to just look at. No I did not eat it, because it looked rancid. And as far as my steak burger goes, that was terrible as well. The meat had a pale look to it, and did not taste right.

I did not finish eating my steak burger. That food was horrible and anybody who was working there should be ashamed of yourselves. Folks want to demand a higher pay of wages while giving poisonous food to paying customers...

Not to mention there was a constant feeling while in the drive through that I was going to have some crackhead run up on me.

I will never return to this establishment. I advise anybody who values their health or well being of themselves, or their families to...

Updated review, 12/27/21: They’ve made changes that have improved the efficiency and accuracy of their drive-through. I haven’t eaten inside since COVID hit, so I can’t address the dining-in experience. Appreciate that I can patronize the Wabash location again! Increasing my star rating from 2 to 4. Thanks! Ya' know, I've always loved Steak 'n Shake. I love their flat burgers and their weird, thin fries and above all, I love their shakes. This two-star rating is for this particular Steak 'n Shake—the one on Wabash—not the brand.

The Wabash S 'n S has the slowest drive-through imaginable regardless of time of day. There may be only one car ahead of me and still, it's going to take twenty minutes. And they've messed up my order scads more times than bad luck can account for.

I've decided that from now on, when I'm jonesing for S 'n S I'll drive to the one on Route 4 (by Meijer) or the one on Dirksen. The extra twenty minutes total will be a wash, and my order likely will be correct.

The last (meaning FINAL) time I went to the Wabash store, the drive-through speaker was malfunctioning so badly I couldn't make out what the employee was saying. There was no way to confirm my order (or even know if they heard me). At the window the woman was apologetic; she didn't know "the dang speaker was broken again." I like every possible flavor of shake with one exception: artificial banana. Guess which shake she handed me first? I couldn't wait another ten minutes for the right one so I kept it. My dog seemed to think it was...

Update: seems they have improved the quality back to standard with the drive through anyway. Have no idea about the interior experience. Anyway, that's a step in the right direction.

Well, it was bound to happen. But I am very bummed as they gave me a COLD burger today. Could have been busy or lazy or whatever but it doesn't change the fact that a COLD hamburger is kind of gross. The cheese wasn't even melted. And it was drive through so what was I going to do? Realistically I just won't be back for a while. But when I do go back DO BETTER DARN IT. Don't ruin this for me.

Oh, last I was there I went inside and everything was great except, I wanted to use the bathroom. It was so filthy I decided to just not even try. Something has happened with this location recently and it has gone downhill very quickly.

Good old fashioned atmosphere. Better than normal fast food fair such as burgers with real fresh trimmings always made to order. The prices are resonable for the most part and generally staff are nice and attentive. Place is clean and well maintained. Seems popular with a lot of different...
