I've visited Small cakes twice now. Each time getting different cupcakes. The first time I had the Boston Cream cupcake, the second time I had the German Chocolate cake. Each cupcake was good in their own way. I also bought my son a Peanut Butter Cupcake, and he liked it. My girlfriend bought cupcakes for her entire family and they all raved over them. To me I thought they were delicious, I think the frosting to cake ratio is a little high, making it difficult to eat... but honestly if you don't get messy eating a cupcake, did you really enjoy it?
The shop is kind of small. I've only looked into the main area, where you purchase the cupcakes. I think there's a back area with seating, but honestly I didn't look because we were ordering to go, but I did see what appeared to be seating there. The front area is a little cramped. Each time I went there was only one us in the store ordering. However, I have the feeling that it could get crowded in there
Both times I went it was the same employee that served us. She was very nice, answered questions, and made suggestions.
They also offer Gluten Free cupcakes for those that want to eat Gluten Free or have Gluten intolerances. There is also a selection of mini-pupcakes made for dogs so that you can share a treat with your...
Read more(Review + Advice) Visited the shop this evening when a last minute sweet-gift was needed for a friend. I do admire the shop from my visual experience! Was not able to purchase anything for myself though.
The Good? My friend was satisfied with the peanutbutter cupcake; described it as moist and flavorful. Very good! 👍
The Bad? The shop does not offer vegan/non-dairy options. Quite the bummer since I was hoping to pick up a cupcake for myself as well this evening. With the Vegan & non-dairy sales skyrocketing as time goes on, I am surprised you guys haven't hopped on board (yet).
My Advice? Offer vegan options. Natalie's Bakery in Geneva offers vegan options and they sell without a doubt...but this isn't quite my point--- you dominate when it comes to Hours Of Operation. That alone sets you apart! I sincerely believe there are many people out and about at night who search for non-dairy & vegan treats! No way am I the only one. You have a fabulous location and I hope you look in to vegan options. Reply to this review and notify me when you do; I will gladly swing by to purchase every vegan option (lol) and adjust my review to...
Read moreI do not normally review places but I have never experienced such a rude person while asking for allergy information. I can not eat dairy so I asked if they had any non dairy frosting. The very nice and helpful young girl asked what appeared to be the manager about most of the frosting being buttercream. The older woman that appeared to be the manager said there was no milk in the frosting and said she could not give me the ingredient list. I am obviously not asking for that. I'm trying to see if the cupcake will make me sick or not. Since its buttercream I said is it made from butter because that's dairy. She responded by saying a girl who works their cant have dairy and and the cupcakes all the time and shes fine in a very rude way as if asking if 1 specific ingredient that is considered an allergen is in the frosting is considered rude. She never answered my question and walked off to the back. I had no response because I have never had someone be so rude when being asked such a simple...
