A peculiar restaurant which seems to want to be a wine bar by the looks of the menu, lack of beers, and abundance of wines and flights. I don't want to wreck their score because they're new, maybe struggling a little, so I gave them an extra star. However, my wife and I will not be coming back.
I knew I wasn't in the right place when I saw there were 26 wines, but no brewed beverages on the menu. We were seated outside, it was a hot night, and I usually like to relax on a Friday after work and cool off with a rich ale or tasty porter before dinner. I had to ask. The server told me (somewhat contemptuously) they only had Bud Light and Bud, and one other beer. My guess is they have these for the staff in the tradition of restaurants so they can all have a beer after closing, and if a customer asks for beer, then they'll sell them.
A meal of a simple cheese pizza, a petite little salad and a 5 ounce glass of Paso Robles wine ran to $78 with the tip included. The pizza was pricey at $26, about 20% more than local high-end pizza restaurants charge. The salad was very good but it was gone too soon, the cute little thing. I would have liked to have had a large salad, but there were only a couple small salads to choose from. These Rose’ by Peno people do not like salads.
Service was a hot mess, with the serving staff making multiple forays out among the tables to apologize for the food not being ready. They did a good job of keeping the water bottle filled, though.
But I thought we, as a nation, were over QR code menus! But no. Rose' is a holdout, forcing the diners to look at their phones at the table, which is a rude thing to do BTW. Their limited menu is in tiny white letters on a black background, literally the hardest possible combination for readability.
Icing on the cake, a guy at a nearby table lit up a cigar after he finished his dinner. His party was dining outside like we were, so I guess he thought that was okay. Unfortunately we were directly downwind of him, so we smelled every puff of smoke from his smoldering stink bomb. That’s why being outside should never be justification to allow smoking while other people are trying to enjoy a nice dinner. Especially not cigars. The wait staff made multiple visits where he was clearly in view, but they never said anything. They let this rude person continue to foul the outdoor dining area with bad-smelling smoke until he decided he was finished.
Alas, good to try new places, at...
Read moreWent on September 15th at 630pm with my girlfriend for my birthday. We had reservations.First, once people started filling up the restaurant, it was so loud in there that I could barely hear her talking and she was just sitting right across the table. The acoustics in there are horrible, so if you're looking for a quiet evening or have trouble hearing in a crowd, this would not be enjoyable for you. We both ordered pizzas, she got the one with eggplant and I got the one with sausage. The cheese blend on mine was very good, but I could literally count the pieces of sausage on my pizza. And there were only 16 small pieces of sausage on my 8 slice pizza. For $26 I expected a lot more toppings. My specialty rum drink was good and the waitress kept checking back in regularly. They did let me pick a dessert for my birthday and comped it. With the reviews I just expected a little bit better...
Read moreI'm not sure what the deal is with this place. I went there on a Thursday to grab some wine and a quick bite. I live in lafyette neighborhood and have passed by several times and decided to stop in finally. I take a seat on the front patio area and browse the menu. The stsff proceeds to completely ignore me for 20 -25 minutes! I'm just utterly passed up by like 4 servers without aa word. I wave to one of the servers to maybe see if I just need to signal. She scowls and walks by as if I'm bothering her or something. Also might I mention that there are only 4 other tables so they aren't that busy. ALSO, I'm the only person of color at this time. Completely unacceptable! Thus place is disgusting. It's giving racist elitist vibe. No thanks. We don't need any of that in our neighborhood! Don't go...
