When I’m in the mood for booze, whiskey is my liquor of choice. I would rather drink beer most of the time, but I do love good whiskey, scotch, and bourbon. One restaurant where the whiskey and craft beer are in wide abundance is Whiskey Cake. I have visited Whiskey Cake in the past, but only recently learned about the location here in Stafford, Texas. Entering this restaurant, the first thing you notice- and can’t take your eyes off of- is the large selection of whiskey. The bottles are arranged behind the bar, stacked in horizontal rows. They have lighting on each row so that the bottles are more visible. If you love whiskey, you won’t be able to stop looking. Besides the whiskey, this establishment is also good for craft beer, with both bottled and draft varieties. When I was here last, I think I counted a total of about 40 beer options and they included several favorites. It’s safe to say that craft beer fans will have no trouble at all finding something the like. With food, Whiskey Cake serves appetizers, snacks, burgers, salads, main plates, etc. The portions of food are smaller than those of most other restaurants and this could be good or bad, depending on your perspective. The prices are not cheap, either. But one way to dodge the prices and test the waters at Whiskey Cake is to visit during the social hour. It runs in the mid afternoon and again late in the evening. They mark down the drink prices and snack prices, making things more economical. I love beer and whiskey and Whiskey Cake is one of the best places around for fans of both types of adult beverages. Whiskey lovers will enjoy choosing a whiskey for their favorite drink and the food is certainly good, even if a little smaller in portion than I prefer. Still, it’s a good restaurant overall and one you need to visit.

We visited before COVID19. I was excited to try out this place for the first time, but I am here to not recommend anyone going. I am all for people supporting the food industry however this restaurant and chain is not one I am suppporting. There are plenty of better options. We visited on a Saturday around 11:00 am for brunch. It wasn’t too full so we were able to walk right in and get a table. The high tables lacked purse hooks along with the bar having no hooks, which for a woman I find difficult because there is no place for my purse. I am not going to put it on the back of my chair where I cannot see it. Limited number of tvs inside for people to sit and enjoy. While there were people in the restaurant it was not packed so we placed our order for food and it took way longer than it should. Apparently the kitchen was not prepared especially since not only did it take too long for the food about 45 minutes or more to arrive the food that my dad originally wanted was no longer available. We were told it was sold out. At 11am on Saturday morning for a place that is suppose to be popular for being you are already out of an item? Clearly it was mismanaged. For appetizers we ordered the thick cut candied bacon, which was awful. It was so riddled with fat and only received like 8 pieces which equated to about 3 pieces at most of meat. The dip and pickled vegetables was okay. We also ordered the bacon jalapeño drop biscuits for appetizer. That dish was not awful, but was only okay. At least we got a good portion out of that order. I had ordered a drink to go with the food. I believe it was the little pink drink. Waitress never brought it over after our food finally arrived and I had to remind the waitress that I had placed a drink order. More time waiting before the drink arrived. For the meal we ordered the three little pigs, farmhouse ham benedict, and chicken and cheese melt. The sliders had poor presentation on a little brick. It’s a waste because you can’t eat off the little brick and we had to ask for a plate. A couple other people at the time had ordered the same and from what I saw they did not bother with the brick and got a plate. The sliders themselves were average in taste, but the meat was cold like it had been sitting out. They could have at least put the food under a warmer if they wanted to bring the food out all at once. The melt was probably the best out of the three even then it was not something I could say was great. Lastly, the Benedict was okay or average. It was not something I loved or could rave about. The kale salad I had for the side was bad. There was no dressing at all so it was very dry. We will not be visiting this restaurant again. At most the restaurant food quality is decent, but not great or delicious. The service was poor too.

Your absolute money's worth. Perfect spot for anyone especially those who have felt jilted by the service at other places. For reference. I'm a level two sommelier specializing in high touch service in the Houston area. If someone asked me where the best service in Houston was I'd say the Michelin pedigreed restaurant in the museum district. Then after that id say Whiskey cake at Stafford. I have been to this location twice. Margaret was an excellent manager who made sure my first visit to this location was excellent. Now recently I took my mother here after a terrible experience at a high end oyster place...just drove right across town. Madison was our server. Madison did an excellent job of attending to our table...u can clearly observe that whiskey cake methodically takes care of their guests service needs. Any issue is met with multiple members of the staff handling it as a top priority. Also it merits saying that the bartending team at this location is one of the most talented in the city. Brittany in particular is one of the best and most talented bartenders in the entire city. I would highly recommend insisting a drink be made by her. The craft cocktail experience here was very impressive. My mom loved the interior and exterior. It's industrial chic but also rustic modern...this is very well executed vision. The herb garden outside is beautiful. The food is great. The reputation of the duck wings is why I first visited and I echo that here as well. Try the duck wings. Try the old fashioned. There's also great vegan/vegetarian options. But for me it was the service. I truly believe as a professional in this field that this location is a top two location for service of any restaurant (fine/casual) in the entire city. I hope to see Margaret , Madison, and Britney again.

I have visited a few different Whiskey Cake locations. But, this was my first visit to the Stafford location. This is the first time I have been disappointed in Whiskey Cake. First, it took 10 minutes for a server to even acknowledge me on the patio. I saw two female servers go in and out 3, 4, 5 times. No one even looked my way. Not even after one of my friends arrived. Finally, after 10 minutes, a male server came to greet us and take our drink order. It took about 10 minutes to get 2 glasses of wine. We were the only table in this server's section. Service time only declined as he got busier from there. He was very nice and polite. He just needs to work on multi-tasking. I won't even go into howblong it took our server to get my other friend's drink. Second, the food. I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast. I ordered my eggs over medium. My eggs came almost hard. And, the bacon was just plain gross. The bacon was so soggy and floppy. I love bacon. I don't need it extra crispy, or anytjing like that. But, I need it to seem like it was cooked more than 1 minutebon each side. I hate wasting food and I could NOT eat the bacon. The herbed potatoes, bacon & jalapeño biscuits and roasted corn & pepper jack grits were good. The manager did visit everyone's table outside. I was so caught up in catching up with friends that I neglected to inform her of my disappointment. I will admit that it may have been able to be corrected if I had spoken up.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen and Bar was along the way for us as we were driving to a strip mall and my brother in law had wanted to try it, so we made a detour. Upon entering you will see an amazing wall of Whiskey that is bigger than any I'd ever seen; it is quite impressive. I ordered the Thai wings for an appetizer and they tasted great; like all of the meat was coming off the bone good. They were a nice blend of Thai seasoning and crispy breading. For my entrée I ordered the chicken and waffles. The selection was mainly due to the description of bacon infused waffles. It was like a mini treasure hunt searching each bite for the bacon bits. The waffles was very fluffy. I opted to have the gravy on the side, but that is a personal choice. I heard that the gravy was amazing, but gravy just isn't really my thing. The chicken pieces were outstanding! They were juicy and full of meat with a very crunchy breading. The meal was VERY filling and delicious. About the only thing I didn't prefer was the syrup as it was a bit runny for my taste. That said, there was nothing wrong with the flavor. Although I did not partake in drinking the Whiskey, all those that had drinks expressed how good the drinks were. Very neatly prepared and presented. I fully intend on visiting Whiskey Cake again and possibly try drinks next time. Great restaurant, absolutely recommend.

I came here tonight with a close friend and had a pretty decent experience. The parking lot was packed and we were afraid that it was going to be an hour long wait, but thankfully it was only 15 minutes. We were seated in the patio, but I would highly recommend sitting inside since the vibes and decor are spectacular. Our server, Stephany was very friendly and helpful. She turned on the heat when I told her I was chilly, and seemed well-versed with the menu. She also did a lovely job of not making us feel rushed at all, and she checked on us frequently. For drinks, we ordered the Hulk and the Guava Gimlet which were both delicious. Since we came during "social hour," they were half-priced, which was wonderful. We ordered a side dish of spicy potato and broccolini and I was surprised to see that it had bacon, which I do not eat. It would have been nice if that was specified. I ordered the OMG 2.0 Burger and my friend ordered the Sirloin. Neither of us would order these again as we didn't find them to be too impressive. Also, I was asked if I wanted chips or fries with my burger, only to be surprised upon receiving the check that there was an extra charge for fries. The whiskey cake, on the other hand, we highly recommend! If we come back, we would most likely come during social hour just for drinks and dessert.
