This was a staple for me since 2001 at the old location near Kirby when I worked in corporate. Now that I moved to Sugar Land, I visit this one. It is Sunday on the downtime and I walked in at 2:35 pm. It said to seat yourself so I did. Upon removing the 2 misplaced jams, there is a pile of pepper. There was hot sauce also at the edge of my table and the server (female, extra long braids with gold pieces in it) just comes by, nothing said, just takes the hot sauce away without asking. She now has decided to NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ME AT ALL and sit down in a booth with her friends to gossip and talk. In fact, she sat facing me two booths away and hasn't done anything. Mind you it is now 2:47 pm and I'm just getting someone else to finally approach me. I advised her the table was dirty and she shyly wanted to address it. I told her it is alright that I'm not going to eat here. She then doubled down and said she will clean the table. I advised her she will have to clean the table anyways. The braided server is now just chatting with her friends while her section has this unclean table and 3 others that are not set to standard with assorted 3 inch pile of napkins, misplaced jelly, ketchup, and 2 tables of other patrons including myself, not getting service.
Very much disappointed to see such service. I havent eaten for the day and I only wanted something simple and yet no accomodations when it is fairly empty.
Now it is 2:55 and a couple walks in and 2 servers have walked by without even a head nod or we will be with you. The female server w the long braid now has left her booth of friends and now 3 servers have congregated there to talk. Noone has addressed these new customers. Now the new couple has to grab an extra menu from another table and the other table left...Possibly without paying? Now the new couple has water dropped off w no interaction from the male server with short dreads. It ia now 3:00 pm. I understand I walk in 1.5 hours before service stops but the service stopped a long time ago. I sincerely hope the front of the house has a meeting with the whole house because I was this close to telling the new patrons, you can wait but you wont be served in a timely manner.
Maybe me being in a Stanford tshirt and flip flops looks like I'm a college kid and I wont tip, but I'm actually close to 50 and will tip when it is warranted. But simply put, this service was no service. And by the way management, your gurl with the dreads, sat down and played w her friends again in the booth and chillin w them right now on the clock while tables have not been reset. Now she just handed them salt and pepper shakers 🙄 and left.
Staff be playin too much and shawty tryin too hard to chill and get time w some boys in the booth before she pushin...
Read moreWe recently visited Avalon Diner and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the staff was overwhelmed and unprepared to handle our group greater than 4. We were left waiting for an extended period for our food which we observed was also the case for other patrons.
Once we were finally seated, the service continued to disappoint. Our server seemed disinterested and inattentive, and it took an unreasonable amount of time just to get our drink orders. When it came time to order our entrées, we were hopeful that things would improve, but unfortunately, they did not.
Some of our entrées (pancakes) never arrived and the orders that did arrive came with many mistakes. There were ao many mistakes that we were even wondering if we were receiving other patron’s orders. Regarding the missing entrees, despite several polite inquiries, we were constantly told they were coming, but they never did. After waiting for around 45 minutes, we decided to just pay and leave without ever receiving the entrees since it was taking way too long to get anything and we were tired of waiting.
Moreover, the diner’s inability to handle groups larger than four was glaringly obvious. The seating arrangements were cramped and uncomfortable, and it was evident that the staff was not trained to manage larger parties efficiently.
Overall, my experience at Avalon Diner was highly disappointing. The poor service and lack of organization made for an unpleasant dining experience. I would not recommend this diner, especially for larger groups. Also, I would say the food...
Read moreHad an unacceptable experience. I ordered catfish and greens. My greens came with a piece of plastic, assume it was garbage, I tried several times to flag a server but no one came. I finally brought it to the kitchen to get it replaced. I went back to my table to eat my catfish while waiting for a server to replace my greens. Then I noticed that my catfish was raw inside. I brought it to the kitchen as well and notified them that I wanted to cancel my order. They really didn’t care about the service I received. No one came to my table to offer apologies, a replacement meal or anything act of concern. And when my friend finished his meal they charged me for my for a cup of hot tea that I ordered. I don’t expect anything for free but I feel the tea should have been complimentary for trying to serve me garbage with uncooked fish. I don’t fault mistakes but poor and complacent service is unacceptable. I returned my food, no additional food was brought to my table, therefore I did not eat dinner there, only had tea. The waiter never addressed my issues with the food. When he brought the check I asked if he had any concerns with my problem, he just smiled. He took the order, delivered the food and brought the check, no other visits to my table, no response from him at all. I had to bring my food to another waiter to expose the problem and...
