I went here for my auntie’s birthday celebration on a Saturday night, and overall, it was a pretty mixed experience. There were definitely some things I liked about the place, but also quite a few things that left me feeling like it could’ve been better especially for the price we paid.
First off, the atmosphere was definitely lively. They had a DJ playing that night, which gave the restaurant a party vibe. I can appreciate a fun environment, especially for a birthday dinner, but the music was way too loud. Even though our table was seated far away from the speakers, I could barely hear my family talking across the table. It made conversation really difficult and honestly a bit exhausting after a while. If you’re looking to dance or hang out with friends for drinks, this might be great. But if you’re trying to have a nice dinner and actually talk, the volume was definitely over the top.
As for the food, I’d say it was okay, not terrible, but not amazing either. Some dishes were seasoned nicely, while others felt a little bland. It’s the kind of food you eat and think, “it’s fine,” but not something I’d go out of my way to have again. The menu had a decent variety, which I appreciated, but for the prices, I expected a little more flavor and consistency.
One of my biggest complaints, though, was the service when it came to drinks and water. Our server was really nice and polite, so I don’t blame them personally, but I wish they had come around more often to refill water or check on our drinks. It felt like we had to wait quite a while before getting refills or extra napkins. When we did order drinks, they looked great, colorful and fun but they didn’t taste like much. The cocktails were pretty expensive, and honestly, they tasted more like juice than anything alcoholic. For the price, I was expecting something stronger or at least with a more distinct flavor.
On a more positive note, I will say that the bathrooms were impressively clean. That’s something I always notice in restaurants, and it showed that they do care about keeping their facilities well-maintained. Another highlight was the outdoor seating area. It overlooked a beautiful fountain and had lots of space, which made for a really nice atmosphere. If the weather’s good, I would definitely recommend sitting outside, it’s quieter, more relaxed, and you can actually hear the people you’re with.
Overall, Mayitos isn’t a bad place, but it’s not great either. It has potential, especially with the beautiful outdoor area and friendly staff. But between the loud music, average food, and overpriced drinks, it just didn’t live up to what I was hoping for. Three stars feels fair, not...
Read moreBE AWARE OF A TIPPING TRAP that I’ve seen a few times when you are in a large party. Because we were in a large party, an 18% tip was added to the receipt. Fair enough. You are warned about that in small print at the bottom of the menu. But they don’t give you a printed receipt from which you can linger over. The server shows you a handheld computer with your total. Then the computer ASKS YOU AGAIN TO TIP THE SERVER. I’ve been caught once or twice by double tipping the wait staff at a restaurant because I didn’t realize that the tip was already included.
We showed up at dinner time as part of a group of about a dozen friends. They put a line of tables together for us. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great with lots of lighting and not a whole lot of noise. I don’t remember if music was playing, but I do remember being able to hear the conversations at the table.
The menu is mostly in Spanish and is, frankly, a pain in the butt. There we were with our phones open using Google Translate and Google Search to figure out what was on the menu.
I was going to order the Camaron EZ Peel (Easy Peel Shrimp), but another item on the menu caught my eye: Mojarra Frita, which is a fried fish. Google Search showed me that this is a whole fish fried and served to you from head to tail with bones. That’s an unusual experience for me so I decided to try it out.
Sure enough, the plate came out with a fried fish on it, smiling at me. The plate included fried rice (other options were onion rings and French fries) and a salad. The fried rice had shrimp and veggies it and was as good as any you get in a Chinese restaurant. The salad had fresh greens that looked good and healthy but were covered in a lump of pico de gallo. I don’t like raw onions so much, so I didn’t eat the salad.
The fried fish was a white fish that was very tasty. Of course, with a dish like this you have to watch for the fish bones. Tartar sauce and pickled onions were included as well. Pictures are attached.
All in all, I...

Our server was aware of my free Gold level birthday packages, and if you want to have split check for the table, you who need to give a credit card first. The food here is actually really good.
