Come with a reservation! My brother and I made the mistake of not making a reservation and coming for Sunday football. We were told we could go upstairs to sit there. It's fine, they have a bar and sports betting, as well as tables to sit. You do have to do order at the bar and bring back to your table. So here's the problem. I get places are understaffed and I appreciate those that are coming into work willing to serve others like me just trying to get out, have some food and drinks and enjoy the game. There were two bartenders, each had a horrible attitude, completely overwhelmed. The bartender helping us would make eye contact, get very frustrated and say wait a minute. I finally placed an order and said it was on my brother's tab. She, perturbed, said "always start with that". I repeated my order and she said come back in 30 minutes. I came back and food wasn't ready. Got ignored for quite a while before after 15min of waiting, was able to order my 2 drinks...came out wrong (coke instead of ginger ale). I looked back at the kitchen. All people's food orders sitting there untouched for quite a while. Here's what I saw that's even more the problem. Bartender didn't know the kind of wings sitting there. She pulls down her mask to get all up and close to sniff the wings before bringing out. Next the barback/server took his ungloved hand and felt the bun of the burger to feel the temperature before bringing out. At this point, I'm cancelling the food. She says she needs a manager. She continues taking others orders, ignoring me (my ordinal bartender was overwhelmed and just left for quite a bit), and I see manager come out asking who needs him. He does the thing on the computer. Bartender tells me at one point that the food is ready and asking if I want it to go. That was a lie because it never came out and all that was there was people's cold touched and breathed upon food sitting ther for 20 min. Finally after she continued to serve others I had to waive her down and explicitly say can I please have my stuff (card). I was able to close out and get the hell out. Basically never come here without a reservation to sit downstairs. I worry about eating here regardless after what I saw. Dam shame. Really used to like coming here. Went to Buffalo wild wings instead. Bartender was extremely busy but she was extremely kind and tried her best to do right by customers. I get that this industry is difficult, but at the end of the day just treat people right and do the...
Read moreThis was my first time at Bobby V’s and definitely my last. I came here today and we ordered our appetizer, nachos, around 1:15… didn’t receive them until close to 3:30. Our server was very nice so this is nothing against him, but we were told several times that the kitchen kept messing up the nachos and they’d be right out. It was over 2 hours until we received them, and mind you this isn’t even the main meal. We ordered the main meal while still waiting for the nachos since it seemed to be taking awhile. That didn’t arrive until about 35 minutes after the nachos name. We were with a big party and everyone else seemed to have gotten their food in a timely manner, some even got second rounds of food before our almost 2.5 hour wait for the nachos. I had my toddler and my infant with me as well, so it was hard to keep waiting that long while my kiddos were getting fussy and cranky and wanting to go home.
We ended up not having to pay for the nachos and I had made a comment that I didn’t want my main dish anymore because the rest of our party was getting ready to leave and we had been there so long that my apetite went away. I still received the main meal (not cooked how I wanted) and still had to pay for it. Along with an extra side of fries that were supposed to be on the house.
I had no issue with our server, as he did seem as genuinely upset as we were that we were waiting for so long and there was mishaps from the kitchen.
Fast forward to when we finally got home and settled, I gave the restaurant a call because I just didn’t think it was fair to have been charged the rest of the bill when I requested to not even receive my main dish and we got charged for the extra fries. I’m not one to ever complain or even write reviews about places, this is my first time, but everything was handled terribly. When I called to speak to the manager, a lady named Emily answered and immediately asked my first and last name and said she needed to know that information to “see what they’d be dealing with”. I found it very rude and unprofessional to say something like that, rather than simply asking what was wrong and how she could help.
It’s a shame we won’t be returning there, nor will the other 12 people in our party who didn’t enjoy the food. Hopefully they will fix this for others...
Read moreI came here with a couple of buddies on a Friday night to do some off-track betting. That portion of the business is self-contained on the restaurant's second floor - a nice touch for handicappers who want to escape an otherwise hectic sports bar. And that upper floor is a true OTB experience. We're talking hundreds of TVs with dozens of tracks, a station to print past performances and several betting stations. I doubt any of it will blow away a veteran bettor, but it was refreshing to see such a fleshed-out handicapping experience closer than Belmont.
Unfortunately, though, the majority of that betting equipment was wasted on the handful of people who occupied the place. I'm not fooling myself into thinking OTB joints are always lively places, but I expected to see more than a dozen people in a relatively new spot on the weekend.
That could have something to do with the subpar service here, though. Out bartender was one of the slowest I've ever had - he had no idea what was on draught and in the fridge, and didn't seem to know how to operate his POS system. He also held us each to one drink at a time and wouldn't serve anyone unless they were physically at the bar. We were also told by the hostess that there was no table service, but came back from the betting machines more than once to find several still half-full beers gone from the table. The workers behind the cash counter were also painfully slow - we're talking more than 15 minutes for them to cash out three people.
But what this place lacks in service, it more than makes up for in atmosphere. The furnishings are all top of the line and brand new, and the entire spot has a classy vibe. You also have the option to get in on the downstairs' raucous environment via a balcony which overlooks the traditional bar area below.
All-in-all, I can't really complain about this place for what it is. The poor service might have knocked some stars from its rating if it were a regular bar, but drinking is only half the appeal here. I'm not sure I'll make the trip from the New Haven area regularly - Sports Haven is still right down the street - but this is a nice spot for an...
