Ok I wasn't going to leave a review but I have to say something. I was in starkville for work and was craving a steak so I looked up restaurants and based off of all the positive reviews I decided on Harvey's. I already looked at the menu online so I knew what I was going to order. First off, I walk in and the hostess quickly jumps up to greet me so I'm thinking positive experience, she checks on a table and could not hide the smug look on her face while giving me a once over. Once seated I'm greeted by my server who was polite but also smug. I will say the other servers were very pleasant, friendly, and accommodating but I did not get that impression from mine. I ordered a filet mignon with conpound garlic butter, loaded baked potato, broccoli, and jalapeno cheddar grits. Everything but the baked potato was luke warm at best. The filet was folded over onto itself and has sinewy strings throughout that could barely be cut with the steak knife and very overcooked in some places( i ordered medium rare. The garlic butter which was initially forgotten wouldn't even melt on the steak. The broccoli was almost raw. The steak was advertised as seasoned with chefs blend of herbs and spices or something to that effect but I did not taste or see any seasoning . The grits were thick and lumpy, I could cut chunks out of them (although they did have good flavor). The baked potato had cubed ham that was very springy almost like spam. One good thing was the bacon. It was nice and crunchy with good flavor. I also appreciated the saratoga still water, it was delicious. I was looking forward to a delicious meal and I was unfortunately disappointed. First impressions stick and this wasn't a good one. One star for the pleasant wait staff and one for...
Read moreI absolutely adore Harvey's Starkville location. I eat there regularly; my friend and I meet there for lunch at least 4 times a week. However, my experience last night was very different. I came with a small part of 3, I ordered a club sandwich, HOT and an espresso martini. My meal was cold, yet the plate was warm to the touch. I told the server, and she got me a new plate. Things were fine, after we received the check totaling out to a little over $180.00, a friend joined us for shots. We cheer, and took the shot, but something was off about it, so we notified the same server, suggested maybe checking the bottle, because as a tequila connoisseur, I knew something was off. She left, came back, said it was because it was chilled, which wasn't the case. Offered another shot, not chilled to compare the two. We accepted and it tasted drastically different. We are about to leave, and she brings a check for the shots. For the record, paying for the shots were of no issue, however it was a huge oversight. I explained to the manager the situation, I had 3 witnesses who were present at during the entire exchange and the manager old me they couldn't fix it after full consumption, which I understand, but the logic behind "taking a shot" is that it is taken in one setting, not sipped, henceforth the phrase "take a shot." I was so taken aback too have had such an experience that completely contradicts how much I love bringing my friends and family there to enjoy. I hope moving forward, more training is put into effective communicating, very...
Read moreI want to start by expressing how much I truly value my experiences at Harvey's in Starkville, Mississippi. The food is consistently delightful, and the staff is exceptional, displaying remarkable friendliness and strong attention to detail. I often find joy in sharing my experiences with co-workers and taking clients there for lunch and dinner, knowing they will be impressed.
However, I did face a bit of a challenge during my visit this evening, which I had been eagerly looking forward to. A friend who traveled from Salt Lake City was someone I had enthusiastically recommended Harvey's to, particularly for their famous prime rib. Unfortunately, when we ordered the prime rib cooked extremely rare, it was disheartening to find that it did not meet our expectations; it was overcooked and appeared to have been sitting for some time before it reached our table.
When I brought this to the staff, I was impressed by how quickly they responded. They promptly provided a beautifully cooked replacement that was fantastic! Still, I cannot help but feel disappointed over the initial experience, particularly after expressing so much admiration for the restaurant.
I genuinely believe in Harvey's commitment to quality, and I am hopeful for my future visits. I wish they continue focusing on the high standards that have made this place so special to many, including myself. Despite this one experience, I wholeheartedly believe that Harvey's is still one of the best restaurants...
