Being new to the area, I decided to have dinner and stay for drinks when they opened the bar on a weekend night. First, the dinner was incredibly subpar. I was expecting some great southern BBQ, but was super unimpressed by the quality. Second, the service when you walk up to the counter to order was absolutely horrendous. I ordered with a smile on my face and even left extra for a tip, but was treated like a complete inconvenience. The person working the register refused to look at my group got super frustrated when I ordered a beer and she had to check my ID. Ignoring that, my friends and I decided to stay put and headed outside to the bar once the restaurant closed. The DJ and bartenders were the best part of my experience. The atmosphere was fun and they had a lot of outside space to hang out. After a few drinks we got an Uber to another bar, so I left my car in their huge parking lot. While I thought I was doing the responsible thing, I did not realize they have a contract with the worst towing company in town. The next morning I go to pick up my car right as the restaurant opened, but it had already been towed. I tried calling every police station in town because they legally have to report a towing, but they could not tell me where it was taken. After numerous calls to the restaurant, I was finally able to speak to a manager about the situation. He informed me that he specifically called the towing company on me even after I explained that I had been a paying customer and did not want to move my car in fear of drinking and driving. Essentially, I was told that I should have risked it and moved the car. The towing company they partner with charges college kids $300 (sometimes more because their prices are never consistent) and the owner lets them! This is an ongoing problem I have noticed while living here with money-hungry business owners in Starkville. I acknowledge the frustration with random cars parking in their lot, but to tow the car of a paying (and good tipping) customer who was doing the responsible thing is inexcusable. I have not gone back to the restaurant since, and will continue to tell people my age to...
Read moreI was met with open hostility from the parking attendant after walking towards the cemetery across the street. I didn't notice the sign in their parking lot that tells customers to not leave the property while their vehicle is parked on little dooey property. I assume the parking attendant for that evening is some sort of manager there. He's a white, middle-aged male. He stopped me from going to the cemetery by saying something along the lines of "Hey buddy! That's a three hundred dollar stunt you're pulling right there!" I was only going to the cemetery because I arrived at Little Dooey a little early and I wanted to go check up on a friend of mine who is buried there. My family was scheduled to arrive about 10 or 15 minutes later. So you can imagine how my entire reality was turned upside down when he threatened me with a $300 towing fee. When I asked him why i couldn't go to a cemetery while i wait for my family to show up, he just called me a liar. He thought I was just going to walk off and not go to Little Dooey. I forgot exactly how the rest of the conversation went but he basically kept chewing me out and treating me like a dog. I would've just got in my car and left, but it was my uncle's birthday supper. I was paranoid that my car was going to get towed while literally eating inside Little Dooey just because the dude thought i left the property. The next day i called Bart (the owner) and tried to explain the situation to the best of my ability. He did apologize to me. However, after getting off the phone with him and digesting what he said to me, I think he feels somewhat justified in how I was treated. He liked the fact that I was paranoid because i "got the message" about the trouble they have with parking. He literally told me they can't just be nice to people. You know what? You really do have to be nice to people. I'm telling y'all if that dude had treated some other person like that, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that he could end up getting physically assaulted. They gave me SOUTHERN HOSTILITY instead of southern...
Read moreRustic accommodations, delicious food, and convenient location! Our first time at Little Dooey's, we stopped in on a road trip from Vicksburg to Tupelo. Noon on a summer Saturday afforded us immediate seating, but the restaurant was definitely still packed. I bet while MSU is in session that this place is wildly busy.
For our party of 2 adults and 1 pre-teen, we ordered Little Dooey Cheese Fries w/ Grilled Chicken Tenders and the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese w/ Roasted Potaotes. The grilled chicken tenders on the cheese fries were to die for!!!!! I don't know what else you can get them on, but I would suggest the grilled tenders any way you can get them. Wow! The pulled pork grilled cheese wasn't greasy and had cheese spilling out on top of the juicy pulled pork. The roasted red potatoes were kind of bland, but they were well cooked and piping hot. Our least favorite things (we all 3 agreed) were the barbecue sauces. They tasted generic and too thick, and the sugar overpowered the fabulous flavor of anything they touched. My advice is to rely on the lovely seasoning of the meat and don't taint anything with the sauce. We will be back, and I will be having those grilled...
