First off, I should say that I had low expectations for this place, as most of the Gyros and Döner shops in the US are generally bad.
So, let me start with the things I liked about it:
The meat, though being of the pressed variety, actually tasted pretty close to legit Turkish/German doener.
The fries were nice and crisp, contrasting and complementing the meat fairly well.
I was not expecting Boba to be offered, but given the owner's background, it was a very welcome addition.
Speaking of welcoming, the staff was very considerate and very kind and made me feel like a relative being invited over for lunch.
The portions are generous, which means the food was a fair value, considering this in a college town, and most other shops like this would charge an extra dollar or two for the same portions.
Now on to the things I think could be done a little better:
Having tzaziki sauce or sour cream instead of or in addition to knoblauch (garlic) sauce.
The meat used, though tasting very similar to döner I have had prior in Germany, is pressed meat and leaves something to be desired in the appearance and texture departments.
The portions, while well worth the price, make the proportions and functionality of the döner as a street food a waste. There's so much veg coming out of my wrap or kebab that I'm wasting half of my food trying to eat it on the go. It defeats the purpose of it.
Veggies should be a substitution for fries or rice on the Döner Box, not an addition unless asked for. Fries already get soggy from the heat and steam of the meat, adding veggies out the gate just makes them mush after five minutes.
Also, clear off a spot to hand off orders from, I don't know how many times I've been personally handed my to go order at the door and just felt weird about it.
Overall, it isn't the best Döner shop I have been to, but it is far from the worst. I can't say I would wholeheartedly recommend it, but I would encourage anyone who happens along to give it a try, as there is something genuinely to enjoy here.
EDIT: Added image to show overdone portions. Where...
Read moreOrdered a large order. The previous visit they failed to add one pita bread so I just thought I would get on my next visit. This visit. Well when I went in to pick up my order they were not very friendly. And when I asked them to replace the pita bread from the last order they said no. I said but I paid for it and you didn’t added to the order I come here a lot why won’t you replace it. After admitting that they must’ve forgot to put it in there they refused to replace it and said that I didn’t call. Why call for one pita bread? I can’t just come by and pick it up on my next order? They said no. Now think about this I come there quite often and they were the ones to forget to put the pita bread in there. All I wanted was replaced and they refused. They stole whatever one pita bread cost not good business.Well it’s just as well because this time things were very good the meat was dry and for some reason they didn’t put as much vegetables in there. I won’t be coming back since I found another place over across from Gnat’s Landing foods better and they give big portions. Extra pita bread if you want more.. Less than...
Read moreThis was impressively good! I won't lie, I was expecting the menu to be completely different and more of a traditional style of German food. We dined in for our first experience. The meats are cooked using this giant kabob machine and shaved off. The beef and lamb are amazing, and I'm not usually a big lamb eater. You can also opt out of the lamb and do beef and chicken. There's this garlic sauce you can order for your food and oh man, it is stupid good! I wish I would have ordered an extra side of it. The vegetables were so fresh and the mango boba slush was awesome. The menu located at the table described a little background on the owner and the food being a Vietnamese and German fusion. Looks can be deceiving! Give this place a try because despite location or appearance, it is phenomenal and I'd...
